Idaho governor repeals mask mandate ban issued while he was away

Idaho Governor Brad Little repealed an executive order that prohibits the enforcement of mask mandates in the state, calling it "an irresponsible, self-serving political stunt," according to a statement the Republican released Friday. The face mask ban was signed by Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin, also a Republican, while Little was out of town.

"An executive order that was issued while I was out of state this week runs contrary to a basic conservative principle – the government closest to the people governs best," said Little said in his statement. "I do not like petty politics. I do not like political stunts over the rule of law."

In McGeachin's order, political subdivisions like public schools would be prohibited in Idaho from mandating face masks. It followed a similar executive order in Texas which has barred most government entities from requiring face masks.

"I firmly believe that you have the right to make your own decisions about masks, vaccines, and how to raise your children," she wrote on her website Thursday. "You don't need the government to tell you what to do."

Actually, the offices are independent of one another in the states I’ve ever lives in and are voted on that way, unlike that of President/Vice President.

She was within her authority to do that.

The governor, to his credit, let every local jurisdiction in Idaho decide their own mask policy. He said he wants the decision made as close to the people as possible. That’s the ultimate conservative “states’ rights” approach and makes a lot of sense.

The city of Coeur d’Alene had a mask mandate for a short while, it was so hated by the vocal residents that it was cancelled after a few months. I like local decision making by accountable people like that, not by bureaucrats in far-away Boise or worse in Cesspool DC.

This Idaho Conservative will tell y'all that Gov Little has been a good gov (not perfect, but very good).

McGeachin abused her discretion, and went for some cheap ink. That's all you need to know about her. I will work very hard for Gov Little in 2022.

If we have an outbreak of something like Ebola combined with a cold virus soon, masks on nurses and doctors should be forbidden. Chain link fence and all of that.

“She was within her authority to do that.”

Obviously as she did it. However, IMHO that kind of action undermines her, I would not trust her. Republicans should be the party of integrity and need to work together. She made a political point, but it would have been more meaningful if she could have negotiated with the Governor and made the change permanent.

Is Gov Little another of the RINO’s?

It seems that he might be.

She needs to run for Governor, I’m pretty sure she would win.

That's probably why she issued the EO. She knew the Governor would rescind it, but Idahoans now know she would liberate them from the fascist face-diaper dictate if she becomes the Governor.

Yes you do blindside the boss when he is betraying his citizens.
She did her duty at her first opportunity.

Local governments have no right to issue mask mandates, they are violating the rights of their citizens.

“Integrity is serving the citizens and not her RINO boss.”

What exactly did she accomplish? Basically nothing. If she had integrity she would have negotiated with the boss, and if he refused she should have put him on notice she was openly opposing him on this issue, and publicly announced it. Instead of backstabbing him while he was away.

“I do not like petty politics. I do not like political stunts over the rule of law.”

The GOP always gets tough with conservatives, not so much with Democrats. If the GOP grew a sac, they wouldn't have to deal with "petty politics"/political stunts like this one that point out the obvious weakness of RINO's like this governor.

I voted for her, but not the Governor because he is almost as much a RINO as Romney. You don’t know Idaho politics if you think she owes him anything. She has been vocal all year complaining about his edicts, beginning with his ban on doctors being able to prescribe hydroxychloroquine off label. Is he Whitmer or Newsome? No, but he would make a typical blue state dem party proud.
