But this system only works if it is acknowledged and respected by the government AND the citizenry. If you resist arrest or lead the police on a high-speed chase, all bets are off and your legal rights go right out the window, as far as I'm concerned.

So police have the power to determine when you're legal rights are non existent? Good to know.

Certainly, very easily. They should be on their guard. But it’s part of the job, the duty, for agents of the state to be neutral to people who are assumed to be innocent per law.

Yep. One thing I’ve learned, though, from watching a lot of videos of perps getting beaten is this: Don’t run from cops. They may be wrong, but like Chris Rock said in his video, if they have to chase you down, their bringing a beating with them.

I'm all for LEOs but...don't these guys have TVs at home?

Have they seen a newspaper in the last year?

They don't know that their every move is being questioned, let alone a black man being beaten to death at roadside after a 100 mph chase?

I would keep in mind too, that there are two aspects of video that we should keep in mind, as I have been bitten by both of them, as have many others:

1. Video is an extraordinarily visceral and effective medium. People see video and it becomes truth. But video lacks context. As an example, recall during the Gulf War when a Marine shot a wounded insurgent at close range and it was captured on video and released to the world, to a firestorm orchestrated by the media. On video, it looked like a cold-blooded execution. However, it did not include the context that these were supposed to be dead insurgents when one made a movement, and that this same unit had encountered multiple cases when insurgents had played dead until the the Marines got close enough, and blew themselves up, killing and injuring Marines. That context was missing.
   
   
2. Video can be (and IS) selectively edited. We see this time and time again. And it is done deliberately, and for effect by the media in collaboration with the Left and the Democrat Party. It makes no difference that when the edits are discovered and pointed out, the lie of the selectively edited video has made it around the world before the truthful unedited video gets its pants on.

Just to be clear-I am all for video and body cams for police. We just need to remember and understand that the medium can be used for nefarious purposes just like any other, and is a powerful tool for the enemy.

And they have shown they will misuse it with no compunction.

I don’t know that police departments and unions fought those cameras very hard. I predicted that there would eventually be a lot of pressure to eliminate them from misfits and losers who had previously been DEMANDING them ... because the typical police cam video you see online these days invariably shows misfits and losers behaving like animals when the police deal with them.

The job description of an LEO is to apprehend suspects and turn them over to the courts and criminal justice system. It does not mention administering punishment. Although once that adrenaline gets to pumping its hard to turn it off. 😏

So in your world the alternatives are allowing police to take away your rights whenever they want to and no police at all? How about a middle alternative: police continue do do their difficult job within the guidelines they are given and with respect for the citizens they are working for? You know, do what the overwhelming majority of police officers do on a daily basis?

I would be willing to bet that hundreds or thousands of "persons of color" are arrested by the police every day and manage to make it to the station alive. Because hundreds of thousand police officers do their job properly.

They have been a number of threads on here praising the Police when they did something praiseworthy.

There are also threads calling them out when they do something despicable, Such as beating the hell out of an old lady with Dementia, dislocating her shoulder among other things. Then bragging to each other how tough they were. It probably breaks your heart to hear this, but the D.A. just charged them. And the Harding Street raid in Huston, Texas were the Police shot down a husband and wife who were doing nothing more than minding their own business. Much to your chagrin, The Police responsible were charged criminally, and some Federally.

There is a difference and you jackboot lickers and holster polishers do not seem to grasp it.
