I lived on King’s Road, just off Sunset—next to Ciro’s night club, which became Art Laboe’s, and about a mile east of the Whiskey a-Go Go.

The lyrics to “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” don’t specify where Glen began his trip to Oklahoma. I assume it was probably Buckeye, Wickenburg, Goodyear or Palo Verde, Ariz. If he had started further north or west, he would have gone through Flagstaff, and if he started further south, he would have gone through Casa Grande.
OMG! Lakewood....I lived there all thru my school years.
Woodruff, just north of South St and half the block south of Mayfair High School.
I was a Lakewood high grad, lived at the opposite end of town: Downey and Candlewood through 7th grade (Alondra Jr. HS). Then moved to Downey and Del Amo. Not far, but went from Paramount school district to LBUSD.

In the 1950’s and early ‘60’s, we used to go shopping at Fedco, a membership department store located in Dutch Village, a shopping center that looked like a Dutch village at South St. and Woodruff.
Fun area to live in back then. For us it was the mid ‘70’s. I do remember Ciro’s and I and i am familiar with Art Laboe and his Oldies But Goodies. Did not know he also had a club.

If you were traveling by car in 1967, when the song came out, and starting from a suburb of Phoenix, you might barely make it to Texola, Okla. in a day if you kept your foot on the gas and didn’t run into any road construction projects or major traffic jams, as much of the trip would have been over two-lane roads.
