First Chauvin juror speaks out and says hours were spent convincing only jury member uncertain of guilt

Brandon Mitchell, juror 52 in the trial of Derek Chauvin, has said that the jury deliberated for four hours as one juror was holding out and needed to be convinced of the former officer’s guilt.

“It was just dark. It felt like every day was a funeral and watching someone die every day,” Mr Mitchell told CNN, adding that the jury was shown the video of George Floyd’s death five to six times a day during the three-week trial.

“I felt like it should have been 20 minutes,” Mr Mitchell said about the four-hour deliberation. He said only one juror, whom he didn’t identify, was not certain that Chauvin was guilty.

The jury eventually found Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and third-degree murder. He faces up to 40 years in prison.

“The deliberation room was straight forward. There [were] a few hiccups with terminology ... there wasn’t too much back and forth,” he told ABC’s Good Morning America.

He said one juror wanted further clarifications to understand the terminology in relation to the charges.

He said: “We deliberated for four hours. We were going over the terminology so we understood exactly what was being asked.

“The one juror that was, I wouldn’t say slowing us down, was being delicate with the process more so ... hung up on a few words.”

I believe the main issue is that most people see the image of Chauvin kneeing on Floyd's neck, classic slave owner dominating his property, and know that is not right

Unfortunately the Defense failed to get into the Jurors minds that Chauvin was taught to do that during police training, he did not dream up that method himself.

First impressions are hard to overcome. Remember, even Rush was down on Chauvin for kneeling on the neck.

“...the jury was shown the video of George Floyd’s death five to six times a day during the three-week trial.”

I bet if they showed the video that often of David Copperfield making the Statue of Liberty disappear you would get many to believe that it actually happened too.

It is pretty amazing how the human mind works. You going to believe some stuff some doctor says that you really can’t understand - or believe your own eyes. Especially after seeing it 100 times.

I would have asked for a bench trial too.

Might have made a little difference.

It sounds like that last juror was planning to do what a jury should do, discuss the evidence presented by both sides to see if it meets the criteria for the charges. The other 11 sound like they had their made made up before they had been given the instructions.

If you don’t vote guilty, the mob will know where we all live by sundown.

I think that none of the jurors will ever admit that fear played a role in their decisions...

They will all insist that they were not intimidated...

I guess the polygraph testing should be used to determine if the jurors voted guilty on all charges mainly because they were afraid of retaliations...

I am very skeptical that Mr. Chauvin will win any legal appeal...

If 11 of the 12 were convinced, and the 12 was hung up on wording...it sounds like the system worked.

I didn’t watch the entire trial. But the parts I did watch were not impressive for the defense. I did not think they did a decent job at all.

Yep. Especially as they convicted on all 3 for the same crime.

Total idiots.

I’d bet it was more like they didn’t want to be responsible for national riots and God knows what to them personally given threats from Maxine Waters and others.

I’ve been the lone hold out on a jury. Most jurors are idiots and not able to look at things logically. I was the lone juror on a hung jury where you knew the guy was probably guilty but the prosecution hadn’t proved it. When I read the jury instructions to them and pointed it out all I got was blank stares.

Most jurors are people too stupid to get out of jury duty.

If I were that lone juror, I would love to have taken on the other 11. I would have convinced them to change their minds, not the other way around.
So you are like Henry Fonda! :)

I was on a similar jury. I wasn’t the only one though. There was reasonable doubt. So the guy walked. State did a terrible job but they had a weak case to begin with. Rape case. Guy never denied having sex with the woman but they had been partying all night long with friends. Everyone was trashed.

So, smart people have no civic duty? No wonder the justice sucks in this country. But you were being sarcastic right?

REVEALED: Chauvin juror who promised judge impartiality now says people should join juries ‘to spark some change', wore BLM shirt in 2020

And neither side caught this?!
