The Supreme Court will decide a major NRA-backed gun rights case on whether New Yorkers can carry concealed handguns while in public.
Why it matters: The challenge to a New York state law restricting the ability of residents to carry concealed handguns in public could result in the most consequential ruling related to the Second Amendment in over a decade.

I have a lot more hope for this one than most of the posters on this thread.
The conservatives would not have taken the case unless they felt they could win and they are signaling they want to get a ruling before Biden can pack the court.
Yeah, expecting the verdict will be little more than “approve more permits”, which isn’t hard as that number is almost zero.
(My NY permit was stamped “for sporting use only”, like all but 4 issued that year, by a judge who left the bench years later over accusations of cocaine trafficking.)
But we can hope. Kinda the last chance before court packing commenced. Plaintiff need make big issue about “shall not be infringed”.
Maybe the court can do a Heller II and lay out that the 2nd amendment applies equally to all states, just as does the 1st and other amendments. If they allow that ‘cannot be infrinded’ can really mean ‘can be infringed’, thus why and how much? Can New York say that you can conceal carry in your own home but not elsewhere? That you can only take your gun to and from certain locations, such as a range? That you cannot possess a gun until you do certain things? And will they recognize then that the same should apply to speech? Maybe only certain groups get to speak? Maybe only certain people get to vote? Or have rights regarding search and seizure, etc. Well, Biden opened the door to this, so let’s see what happens.
However this goes, people should be more careful to nominate and support justices that have or have had guns, maybe even have had concealed carry permits if they don’t live in states with constitutional carry laws, and maybe have not gone to Ivy League schools. Everyone has set this up by focusing on abortion instead of the bigger picture.
Sure. Something about “emanating penumbras”...
Don’t emanate on the penumbra.

I’m am not optimistic at all regarding any 2nd Amendment cases going to the SC. Not at all...
Count on the Supreme Court to chicken out again just as they have chickened out on every single last thing in the last 6 months.

I agree. You can’t trust a SC that supports election
fraud.
What utter and complete bovine excrement!
4 justices had to agree to take this case. The 3 leftist justices certainly didn’t agree to take the case. That means (at least) 4 justices are strongly inclined to strike down the statute. Odds are definitely in our favor. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Thomas, and Alito are strong on this issue. Amy Coney Barrett is a likely vote as well, and Roberts will join to make it a 6-3 decision. Only question is if they carve out some exception to densely populated cities like NYC, etc. BTW, the four conservatives who agreed to take the case must have a good feeling that they will be joined by one of their colleagues.
Oral arguments for this ought to be really interesting.
Don’t expect anything lofty from those people!

Are you saying that our rights under the Second Amendment are contingent upon how well the police do their job?
No, I’m saying the gun free laws of blue cities are unconstitutional and the people that live there deserve the right to protect themselves, especially now that crime is skyrocketing due to defund the police.
Yup. Once again they make their own counter arguments.
Store protection.....so store owners can carry to protect their store, the times in it or themselves? Am I reading that right?
Wasn’t it all during the riots last summer that the liberals told business owners not to worry about having everything looted or destroyed and all of it can be replaced through insurance?
I would not bet against your prediction.
They have the right to defend themselves. Whether they want to risk exercising them is something else.
