After 1:00 am on the 25th, an explosive eruption occurred at the Minamidake summit crater in Sakurajima, Kagoshima City, and it was confirmed that the pyroclastic flow flowed down about 1.8 km from the crater. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a new warning around the crater, maintaining eruption alert level 3 and calling for alerts to large volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows within a range of approximately 2.4 km from the crater near the residential area.

Saw them in Autzen Stadium in the ‘70s.

GODZILLA by Blue Oyster Cult
With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high-tension wires down
Helpless people on subway trains
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them
He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town
Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

The Godzilla head that the drummer wore really sold it.
The youtube animation of the eruption of Vesuvius as seen from Pompeii shows the pyroclastic flow hit towards the end.

To be honest, I just heard the song for the first time about a year ago while looking up “Fear The Reaper” on YouTube. It’s ok. But so many much better songs from that time.
That was Perry Mason......
And another Pompeii movie animation showing the pyroclastic cloud. The guy who played Jon Snow in Game of thrones gets obliterated at the end.

Pretty cool. A lot of the volcanic bombs cool to the point where the exterior crusts over. This traps a lot of still-molten rock and expanding gases inside. They begin to swell, the exterior shows cracks as the interior expands, and BOOM.... All of it is recorded in the rocks that explode away. I’ve got one about the size of a football that shows all of the process.
The story of Ludger Sylbaris, the only man to survive the pyroclastic cloud from the Mount Pelee volcano on the island of Martinique when it blasted the city of Saint-Pierre in 1902.
He had been locked up and toss into a dungeon below ground level when the blast hit.

I would love to see that, I have a huge fascination and interest with everything Mt St Helen’s, I make 4 or 5 trips up there a year.
The place was littered with bomb fragments of various sizes. The ones near the mountain must have been blown in a near vertical trajectory.
Some day, pyroclastic flows are expected to impact the area around Mt Ranier/Tacoma.
Thank you!
And just like that, another boyhood memory was crushed.
I used to watch the old Japanese monster movies every Sunday. Mostly for the cute Japanese girls, but also because we only got 5 TV channels.
Hold on, it's not what you think. Soon after he made those movie you grew up on Japanese scientists found a way of reducing his size to that of an average human being. In other words, he really was over 500 feet tall when you watched him as a kid!
That’s exactly what I’m talkin’ bout!
And who was it who said ‘crime doesn’t pay’.
