The family of Ma'Khia Bryant remembered her as a "beautiful" and "sweet" girl and questioned why a Columbus, Ohio, officer shot her.
Her mother, Paula Bryant said: "Ma'Khia was a sweet little girl. She didn't deserve what happened to her."
Police said the video shows a girl, identified as Ma'Khia, trying to stab a person on the ground, as well as another person leaning against a car. Officer Reardon fires his weapon four times, and Ma'Khia falls to the ground, the video shows.
She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
"Ma'Khia was a good student, a good person, and did not deserve what happened to her. We want to remind everyone Ma'Khia was only a 16 year old teenage girl. We are deeply disturbed by the disproportionate and unjustified use of force in this situation," the family said. "And while we remain encouraged by public support and all of the prayers shared with us; at the end of the day, we know nothing will bring back our beloved Ma'Khia. We respectfully request justice for Ma'Khia Bryant."
Ma'Khia was in the foster care system . Cousin Don Bryant declined to comment about why or how long.
Her business education teacher, Austin Owens, said she had big dreams for herself.
"She was going to run the world, and she wasn't going to be ostentatious about it," Owens said. "She was going to do it." She wrote in a five-year-plan assignment that she wanted to go to college and open her own eyelash salon.
Her Facebook profile shows her blowing a kiss at the camera.
The department said police picked up what appeared to be a knife near Ma'Khia's body.
Don Bryant questioned why police did not use de-escalation tactics.
"What's going on that we have to be so trigger-happy these days?"

The girl in pink was holding a French pug. Her daughter was holding a knife.
I honestly feel sorry for both the cop and the foster family-maybe tasering the not-so-little-and-sweet girl would have been more appropriate, if that were possible-at least it is not fatal-and kids are not usually in foster care because of a parent’s illness, death, divorce, job loss, etc-it can be due to abuse, but they are usually there because they have been declared delinquent/incorrigible and ordered to go to a foster home for a certain amount of time-it is better than juvie, but apparently not any more effective in some cases...
I wasn’t aware that a college education was required to open an eyelash salon-or any other salon having to do with grooming hair, face, body, etc-that is news to me-even tattoo parlors don’t require college before you can do ink...
why didn’t her family take care of her then? Why was she in foster care?

The officer who took lethal action should be congratulated for saving the life of the girl in pink and maybe others as the perp had gone crazy with the knife.

That “sweet” girl was in full throttle mode- had her weight shifted on the back foot, knife arm reared back for momentum getting ready to stab the hell out of that girl.
