Oklahoma passed legislation this week offering protections to drivers caught in riots who unintentionally kill or hurt rioters.
In addition, the bill increases penalties for people who block roadways during a demonstration, KHOU reported.
Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) signed House Bill 1674 into law on Wednesday, the outlet continued:
The measure says drivers will not be held liable if they flee the scene of a riot and injure or kill individuals if they think it was necessary to protect themselves from serious injury or death. The bill also states the driver must exercise “due care” when the injury or death occurs.
The bill was crafted following a viral altercation last summer where a pickup truck drove through a crowd protesting the death of George Floyd on a Tulsa interstate. Several people were injured in the crash, including one man paralyzed from the waist down after falling off an overpass.
Protesters damaged the vehicle as it moved through the group and witnesses accused the driver, who was with his family, of intentionally driving through the crowd of protesters.
However, he was not charged.
“HB1674 also makes it a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a [$5,000] fine to block a public street during a demonstration,” the outlet said.
Citizens saw numerous riots in Oklahoma and across nation in the summer of 2020, the bill’s author, Rep. Kevin West (R-Moore) said in a press release Thursday:
On the day this bill was signed into law, we even had an outburst in the House of Representatives. That thankfully was resolved quickly and without violence, but it illustrates that we are a nation governed by laws. I certainly support the right to peacefully protest and assemble. I will not, however, endorse rioters that spill onto city or state streets

It’s a shame they need to pass a law like this. When rioters are threatening your life and the lives of your family trying to break into your vehicle and kill you, you have every right to defending yourself and your family with deadly force.
That’s just a basic human right.
GOOD
You couldn’t swing a dead skunk in that room without hitting a lesbian.
And boy! Wouldn’t that be fun!
Make it a felony, punishable by at least 10 years in jail, with hard labor.
I’d pay good money to swing a dead skunk in that room.
OK.....maybe not a dead skunk.
A skunk wearing a protective suit and a helmet.
I’m not heartless.
A skunk has to make a living, too.
I agree. Some of these videos of BLM/Antifa smashing out windows, entering vehicles, pulling people out and beating the snot outta them is insane!
Cannot imagine not feeling terror or fearing for your life/safety.
Not exactly an ideal place to be discharging a firearm to defend yourself either. Powder burns, glass debris wounds, and extreme hearing damage are all risks in that situation, despite what you see in movies.
The safest course is to accelerate the vehicle through the crowd to find safety. If some idiots want to put themselves in front of a vehicle driven by someone fleeing for their life, then by all means they should be free to do so. But don’t charge the driver. They’ve got enough to deal with with the blood and paint damage.
“I’d pay good money to swing a dead skunk in that room”
Skunk lives matter!
Insurrection.
Time to invest in an airport sized snow blower.
Hooray!
Man oh man...what has our country come to. Good grief! Feels like our society is disintegrating.
I’ve been working on coming up with some sort of rooftop (for SUVs) or undercarriage mounted OC gas/gas grenade/gas & smoke grenade dispenser that can be fired by remote specifically for this reason.
You are going to need to have a substantial enough vehicle with high enough ground clearance to plow through the crowd if you need to get away. Traditional sedans and econocrapboxen can actually get hung up on bodies in crowds if they don’t have enough of a run-up - and then you’re really screwed.
Rather toss a few grenades in.
what the hell is “due care”
if you run someone over how do you show you’ve done “due care”
like not running them over multiple times, backing up and doing it again?
Once a socialist revolution gains complete power it usually purges/murders the radicals and the undesirables that brought them to power. This is what the National Socialist Hitler did on the Night of the Long Knives on June 30, 1934. Fearing that the paramilitary SA had become too powerful, Hitler ordered his elite SS guards to murder the organization’s leaders, including the homosexual Ernst Röhm. Also killed that night were hundreds of other perceived opponents of Hitler.
Persuaded by Hermann Göring and Heinrich Himmler, Hitler finally decided to purge the SA chief. Röhm was taken by Hitler personally from a hotel near Munich on the pretext that he and the SA were preparing a putsch. Röhm was shot without trial the next day.
Hitler had known that Ernst Röhm was a homosexual since a 1931 when the Berlin police exposed letters between Röhm and völkisch physician, writer, and openly gay Dr. Karl-Günter Heimsoth. Hitler, being the National Socialist that he was, waited until Röhm's usefulness was over.
House Bill 1674 aka Black treads don’t matter.
Due care is another name for “due regard.”
Due regard means the regard that is appropriate given the totality of the circumstances.
The concept is taught during police training.
Example: police officer can use lights and siren when responding to calls, exceed the speed limit and go through red lights. However, said officer cannot blindly run a red light at 100 mph. Officer needs to approach intersection and make sure there is a clear path before proceeding.
Same concept here. If you deliberately aim your car into the middle of the rioters and hit the gas, you are probably going to have a problem. If you turn toward an opening and do you best to avoid any rioters (but they happen to get caught by your car and run over) that will be different.
