Sen. Chuck Schumer pressed President Biden on Friday to use executive action to wipe out up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower, centering veterans and service members in his latest push.
Flanked by a group of local veterans at Hunter College on the Upper East Side, the Senate majority leader said that too many college graduates — including combat veterans who risked their lives overseas — are shackled with crushing debt that plays an outsized role in their life decisions.

‘forgive’??
And WHO forgives taxpayers’ debt, once WE all go into the red taking care of that stuff?
Ditto. What he well said.

“never got a residency”
Perhaps the number of residencies should be increased.
On a related note, just this morning, NPR was saying that Florida is going to allow a doctor to have 10 physician assistants working under the doctor.
NPR also said some states have no limit per doctor.
Some doctors are very upset that Florida will retain a limit.
Let’s get the government out of the student loan business. Less people will be able to afford college, and maybe the price will come down.
Make those who stupidly signed up for the debt pay it off.
Amen. I'll pay off little Scooter's student loan and you guys pay my mortgage - K?
I'm not so sure that is the plan, but it seems the obvious goal. This may be more divide and conquer.. 80% of the people in debt are going to be upset with those that have their loans forgiven. It is all about stirring us up, dividing us, and bankrupting the country
I worked two jobs during the school year and then a full time job in the summer
Graduated a year early from high school and it took me 6 years to finish so I graduated a year later than my high school class.
The big issue is the the growth of the welfare state has shifted funding priorities from a goal of subsidizing state universities to keep tuition as close to zero as possible to paying social welfare transfer payments to non working and non productive members, socializing the cost of medical services and vastly inflating the price taxpayers pay for a K-12 education - with a huge drop in the learning achievement of current K-12 grads which adds the cost burden of remedial education for entering freshman students to the University overhead budgets.
A non trivial portion of the tuition goes to teaching new students things they should have been taught in high school.
For university education in England, repayment is a percentage of a graduate’s income above a base amount that varies by country of post-school residence.
This method protects the student, but not the nation. Many loan balances will not get paid off by the graduate.
Democrat ideas never persuade people, they need anarchy and forced power to rule.
When I first glanced at the headline I thought Schmucker was talking about the US taxpayers. Guess the irony is lost on him.
Has Schumer asked the Chinese to “forgive” the debt America has run up with them?
Fire half the administration and nobody will notice.
I learned just as much in old WWII barracks as they do in marble paved buildings.
Can’t believe this took 80 some posts! And their children get it too. Two years I think?
What is he talking about?

At Hunter, non-resident tuition appeared to max out, based on program, from $11,160 to $18,000/year.
The current GI Bill should cover that tuition for qualified veterans I believe.
Hunter has mandatory fees too.
My neighbors’ daughter became a physician assistant.
Her student debt was paid off by her employer after two years of employment.
Savings rates are at an all time high.
One has to wonder if both statements can be true.
“Savings rates are at an all time high.”
Newsom, Cuomo and Whitmer make it easy to save money by limiting the places where you can spend it.
