BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union is estimating that 150,000 Russian troops have already amassed for the biggest military buildup ever near Ukraine’s borders and that it will only take “a spark” to set off a confrontation.
At the same time, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Monday that the condition of imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was “critical” and that the 27-nation group would hold the Kremlin accountable for his health and safety.
Despite the worrisome developments, Borrell said after a virtual meeting of the EU foreign ministers that, “for the time being, there is no move in the field of more sanctions” to be slapped on Russia.
He also said there wasn’t a request for a synchronized EU diplomatic move of expulsions in the standoff between EU member state the Czech Republic and Russia following Prague’s accusation that Moscow was involved in a 2014 ammunition depot explosion.
More dangerous at this time, Borrell said, was the massing of Russian troops, including military field hospitals, and “all kinds of warfare.”
“It is the highest military deployment of the Russian army on the Ukrainian borders ever. It’s clear that it’s a matter of concern when you deploy a lot of troops,” Borrell said. “Well, a spark can jump here or there.”
Borrell declined to say where he got the 150,000 Russian troop figure from. But it is bigger than the 110,000 estimate provided by Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Taran on Wednesday.

Respectfully, you are wrong. It’s very unlikely this is the opening of WW3 as nobody will do anything militarily in response to Russia taking part of all of Ukraine and China taking Taiwan.
Привет!
I know how to make this problem go away. We’ll all wear masks around our eyes and our ears. problem solved.
A satellite image can tell this if it is true. Even if it is, let them sort it out , we don’t need to be in a police action here.
Democrats getting ready to impose those Wilsonian Sedition Acts.
See y’all in the camps!
Imagine you are on the border of your state,
and the entire Marine Corps is lined up on the opposite
side. One might have reason to be nervous.
The primary objective in any sovereign nation state is the preparation of and the act of war. That is the main reason of government and has been for thousands of years, there is no other. Everything thing else is in support of this.
Honestly, I do not see Putin as a real adversary.
I divide the political world into two sides: Globalists and Nationalists.
Trump and Putin are Nationalists. I think they would each try to avoid conflict with the other, because the outcome of conflict at that scale would hurt the Nation they support.
Biden and the EU are Globalists. They have a very long-range goal: destroy the Nation State. They would welcome conflict that damages any nation state — especially the US.
I don’t say that Putin is a nice man. But I think he lines up with the Good Guys in the current struggle.
There can be no conventional war as in W.W. II, we and our adversaries can only go so far until we light the fuse of Nuclear War and then everyone loses. There are no winners there. Only limited wars can be fought that have no real objective except to enrich the Military Industrial Complex, nothing more. Thats was exactly what Vietnam, Korea, and the Middle East was about.
It doesn’t take 85,000 troops to take the Ukraine, and if the
numbers are anywhere near some reports, it’s becoming pretty
evident something more than the Ukraine is on the table.
We’ll see. No one knows the future, so I could be wrong, and
I would hope so.
You won’t hold the Poles back if the Russians cross the Dnieper River.
I agree.
Pretty soon that border will very likely be on the other side
of the Ukraine too.
Ukraine was a Russian kleptocracy for decades/centuries, until 2014, the CIA, Obama and NATO decided it should be a US deep-state kleptocracy instead.
And when it did - who are the very people they started cutting checks to? Hunter Biden and Christopher Heinz.
If you think “standing up for Ukraine” benefits in any way the US people, you are a fool.
if they take it, they have to occupy it... and that takes hundreds of thousands of soldiers along with the pro-russia para-militaries.
I think those are good arguments. I will say though, egos
got us into wars of the past, and I think Putin and Xi both
have massive egos.
Not our monkeys not our circus...
It would only take one canon fired tactical nuke to fix it - if it becomes necessary.
Thanks. Appreciate the mention. That will be something I’ll
keep an eye on now.
If Poland goes in, it would seem it would draw others in.
Maybe not.
BUMP!
