On Wednesday, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee voted to recommend the creation of a commission to consider reparations for the Black descendants of U.S. slaves.
First introduced in 1989 by Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, H.R. 40 had never made it out of committee until this week. Twenty-five Democrats in the Committee voted in favor , while 17 Republicans voted against .
“This legislation is long overdue,” Rep. Jerrold Nadler , Judiciary Committee chairman, said . “H.R. 40 is intended to begin a national conversation about how to confront the brutal mistreatment of African Americans during chattel slavery, Jim Crow segregation and the enduring structural racism that remains endemic to our society today.”
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee had reintroduced the bill earlier this year.
“We’re asking for people to understand the pain, the violence, the brutality, the chattel-ness of what we went through,” Lee said during a committee debate on Wednesday.
“No one should be forced to pay compensation for what they have not done,” Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, said during the debate on the bill.
The advancement of H.R. 40 marks a victory for proponents of a national redress to the inequities caused by slavery. While the bill does not lay out how reparations would take shape, it establishes a body to study the effects of slavery and the socioeconomic discrimination that followed .
“This is a huge development in terms of a multi-developmental struggle of African Americans in this country,” Dr. Ron Daniels, president of the National African American Reparations Commission (NAARC), told Yahoo News Friday. “This bill will go to the floor of the House to be voted on. It’s hard to express what it means that this nation is on the brink of addressing one of its original sins of enslavement and addressing its aftereffects.”

The way the court system works is the INDIVIDUALS (not clump of citizens) that engaged in a criminal acts or act that caused loss to another individual, pays the aggrieved litigants, IF FOUND TO BE GUILTY OF NAMED BEHAVIORS. Evidence for both sides needs to be presented to the courts.
Throwing money at black culture isn’t going to help them. I really don’t understand why they don’t see this?
The United States should not pay for something that Britain did. If they want reparations then they should go to Britain and get it from that government.
Again people really need to read the founding father’s opinion on the matter and why the word “slave” was kept out of the founding documents and why one of them predicted that the institution of slavery would lead to a civil war between the states. The founding documents were written in such a way that slavery was a major issue from the time of their signing until 1861 which was less than 90 years from the founding documents.
The history of the black people in this country has been highly convoluted and misrepresented by the left and they still continue to do so. The funny thing is history has shown that people of their own kind have continually betrayed their kind for a very long time. The history of slavery is ripe with betrayal from the advent of tribal warfare in Africa to the runaway slaves headed north to the race pumpers of modern day. Some of the biggest modern day betrayers are Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. MLK would rip Farrakhan a new bung hole if he were alive today. Another betrayer is the Nation of Islam, while purported to be of Islime has nothing to do with Islime considering the Arabic word for slave is the same for the color black. Race pumpers are not the same as house servants in the era of the plantation nor are they to be confused with the Uncle Toms. They are more closely aligned with the Capos of WWII in the ghettos of Poland and Germany. Of their kind but betrayers of all of them.
The left wants segregation and they will do everything they can get to get segregation.
Most do but they are not the ones making these laws or rules. As with anything else you only seethe bad apples.
Lucky for the Democrats that they have Dominion voting machines, crooked Secretaries of State, County Clerks and Precinct Captains working for them to steal elections.
Under normal circumstances robbing 87% for the benefit of 13% of the population would not be beneficial for getting elected or re-elected..
“ What percent black DNA is the cut-off? And are self-identified blacks included?”
************
Thinking this will give a new meaning to the term “he or she can pass”. I’m guessing virtually every person of Southern European descent (which includes me) has some black DNA in their gene pool.
13 people on this commission. They are given 12 million taxpayer dollars to ‘study’ the situation.. That works out to about $923,000 each.
Such a deal!!!!
Do they think this will appease BLM? Rather doubt it.
Nothing will ever be enough for some of them
I bet you if you looked into this guys family history, you’ll find that they weren’t even close to slavery.
Yahoo is, apparently and appropriately, named...
One Drop Rule made lots of “white” people slaves so One Drop Rule should be all it takes to grab a little extra from Big Brother.
Help them? Reparations has zero to do with helping black culture. It's about buying votes, paying off big time the race pimps who deliver for the RATS because there will be lots of pipeline money for everyone's beak to get wet, and, of course, casting and identifying anyone against reparations as black hating racists of the worst kind.
Direct payments to anyone with this lineage will happen, unless there is mass civil disobedience: refusal to pay Federal income taxes.
So, will you guilty people with at least 3 white grandparents pay your taxes?
Crack, Newports, and OE 800 prices will spike.
Reparations are due to the families that fought and died to end slavery. Their lives were turned upside down. Hundreds of thousands of them died to free ALL people enslaved by a corrupt GOVERNMENT!

Are the descendents of slaves today better or worse off than the lives of the average non-slaves living in 1864?
