This might not be right-think, but most of America allows consent from 16 & 17 year olds. Florida and 10 other states require 18.

It appears to be a legal issue and not a morals issue, so I suspect many writers are feigning outrage when their own state has a lower age of consent and has had it for years.

Some more details about Gaetz have become clear - namely that he and his father were being shaken down by some guy who claimed to want the money to free an Iranian hostage. Whether the stuff Matt Gaetz was apparently being shaken down over is true - who knows? Still haven't seen anyone come forth to accuse him of anything, just some reports about investigations.

When guys like Andrew Cuomo sit around refusing to resign in the face of multiple accusations by named accusers, I'm not prepared to throw Gaetz under the bus over some insinuations. Let the facts come out.

Gaetz always struck me as a flaky guy who was more of a showman than a serious politician. Nothing wrong with that, but his credibility took a huge hit in my book when he was running around claiming to have all the votes lined up to dump Liz Cheney from her GOP leadership post ... only to see her get re-elected to that position by a wide margin.
