China, US send warships into disputed waters as tensions rise over Whitsun Reef

China and the United States have sailed aircraft carriers into contentious waters in the East and South China seas, the latest maritime contest between the strategic rivals at a time of heightened tensions in the region.

Analysts say their naval presence in the Indo-Pacific at the same time highlights the risk of military conflict between the powers, as Beijing asserts its maritime claims in the region more aggressively and Washington focuses its defence strategy on countering China.

It comes amid a deepening dispute between Beijing and Manila over the presence of Chinese vessels - which the Philippines says are a maritime militia but China says are fishing boats - in the Whitsun Reef in the South China Sea. The Philippine foreign ministry on Monday said China's claims that the boats were sheltering from bad weather were "blatant falsehoods" and "clearly (a) false narrative of China's expansive and illegitimate claims in the West Philippine Sea".

Isn’t that the truth.

Half the country has an IQ less than 100. These people LIKE these kind of jobs.
———
Not for the minimum wage they are offering... looked at openings in ConnectingColorado (Colorado unemployment’s official state jobs site) and a veteran’s workforce site focusing on Colorado. Hundreds of jobs listed per week. Mostly manufacturing, distribution or some other blue collar work. Remain unfilled week after week.

Pay tops out about $14-$15 an hour. A few $18 to $22 an hour jobs requiring specialized experience, like a CDL. That’s a pay cut and and a huge environment shift for most who previously worked in service-oriented white-collar jobs shut by lockdowns.

Admittedly, we, as a country, forget what it’s like to get our hands dirty to do a job. Me included. We have grown to depend on Juan or Maria from Jalisco for that.

Not for the minimum wage they are offering...

With a tariff or a war they will have to offer more per hr. That is the point.

They (PLAN) will try and avoid Japan and simply surround them.

I believe I read the Chinese navy (PLAN) is no match for the Japanese navy.

Russia will suffer heavy casualties if they send in their regular troops - the Russians a re the invaders and they know it; the Ukrainians are fighting for their homes - makes a huge difference.

Once the bodies begin returning to Russia, they will be forced to withdraw - the soldiers’ families will not continue support and Putin will be in political trouble again.

Yep, the politicians, feds., corporations, etc. just want another war so they can get richer off this one too! God bless our military, most of them don’t know that they are being used to put their lives on the line, etc. to make lots of EVIL people rich/richer/etc.

The Russians are, for the most part, white (there are some ethnic minorities) and thus deserving of punishment

There are thousands of muslims in the Russian army as regular troops - killing muslims is not WOKE and anti-PC. So no war with Russia - just send the Ukraine some more Javelins and call it good.

Yes, we must not confuse some to a lot to most people of a country (depending on the country) with their EVIL/TYRANNICAL/ETC. governments.

Tesla’s work and inventions were mainly trying to make practical James Clark Maxwell’s field equations. Without Maxwell, no one would have heard of Tesla or Einstein for that matter.

China could sink our carriers in a heartbeat if they wanted.

Nope. Even with direct fire the US Navy was hard pressed to sink an obsolete CVN. The old CVN used in nuclear weapons test was not sunk either

China **might** be able to get one hit with its Dengfong 21D, but sink one? No way.

On the other hand, perhaps a few dozen container ships could succeed where missiles fail - given the recent track record of Aegis destroyers vs container ships.

We never tried to sink a CVN with nuclear weapons. There has only been 1 CVN that retired and it was CVN65 U.S.S. ENTERPRISE.

Yes we did - it was in one of the early pacific bomb tests ; they may have not had the CVN designation in the 50s-60s, but a carrier none the less - one of a feet anchored out

Those were CVs. The N came when we made nuclear powered ones. We did do shock testing to the Theadore Roosevelt. The ship was screwed up ever since

If china blocks trade it’s a big deal that can be negotiated. It’s in everyone’s best interest to allow trade. If China takes a disputed island or Taiwan or Hong Kong I’d rather not go to war over it- especially with Biden leading things. Anyone who thinks a war with China would be anything but catastrophic is an idiot.

———-
If China blocks trade, it’s an Act of War. Good luck getting anything from overseas when China owns the trade routes. The Middle East-Singapore-Philippines-US trade route is a biggest in the world, with their next fake island off the coast of the Philippines right in the middle of it all.

Pretty easy to stop ships in the Suez Canal as the recent test has shown. China can stop us in the Panama Canal as well.

Do we just negotiate? Or do we send our Atlantic Naval ships to the Pacific or vice-versa going around South America?
