California teens can go to an amusement park but can't go to math class

Over one year into the coronavirus pandemic that rocked the economy and shut down in-person teaching, many students across California are still unable to receive in-person teaching.

While schools in Long Beach and Orange County have reopened their schools to allow for some version of in-person instruction, many districts remain shut to students.

In Oakland, an agreement to reopen classrooms early between the district and teachers unions was rescinded after teachers refused to return before the mandatory start date of April 14, despite being offered priority vaccinations and cash incentives.

The refusal by Oakland teachers meant that high needs students, including homeless, foster and special needs students, were unable to get into a classroom this week.

In southern California Friday, Ed Source released a poll by San Deigo Unified parents that showed nearly 73 percent of parents want their kids to receive in-person teaching, though just 64 percent of families responded to the poll.

A frustrated associate professor at UCSF directed her frustration at Gov. Newsom in a Friday tweet, saying California’s priorities were misaligned with the best interest of the state’s residents.

"There are no hidden complexities that could possibly explain this misalignment of social priorities," Jeanne Noble said, before highlighting San Francisco’s permitted activities like amusement parks and movie theatres while classrooms remain shut.

San Francisco Unified School District and School Board were sued by the city of San Francisco earlier this year in an attempt to get the board moving on reopening classrooms.

The board garnered nationwide attention after they prioritized renaming schools they felt were racist or represented colonial oppression, instead of creating a plan on how to get children back to in-person instruction.

Democrats have always been opposed to their slaves being educated. Of course, they have to have some education these days but the Dems are careful to ensure that they don’t get too much.

Good point!

Maybe lowering the voting age was a mistake.

Teachers do not give a damn about the children. Teachers are undereducated fools and many are just plain illiterate. The education they receive is in the form of leftist indoctrination sandwiched between classes in how to make bulletin boards. They are not professionals since they belong to unions. They should never be treated as professionals since they never improve. They do not strive for success or achievement. The evidence is clear. Just look at standardized test scores when compared to many other nations that are clearly ahead of the United States. All they care about is their time off and fat pensions. They are takers, not makers. Scum of the earth.

The state of New York recently passed a law requiring prospective school teachers to take a literacy test to get their license, but repealed it the following year because 36 percent of whites, 54 percent of Hispanics and 59 percent of blacks failed.

Given the state of CA schools, the poor children probably learn more at the amusement park. As an added plus, the park attendents are probably more educated than the ‘publik skool eddikators’ currently infesting the schools.

Without a doubt it was.

The solution was to make sure you couldn’t join the Military (get drafted) until you were 21, not lower the voting age.

But Vietnam proved that good decision making wasn’t a burden most leaders had in the 70s.

Their failure will be blamed on Whitey, who will also be paying the bill for the additional crime.

The Board of Education should also have to prove themselves in literacy in most states...politics have no place in education but it stands tall in unions, classrooms and sports. The hate talk that comes from some teachers today is mind boggling...narrow minded and illiterate come to mind when thinking of teachers....

but repealed it the following year because 36 percent of whites, 54 percent of Hispanics and 59 percent of blacks failed.

You can almost be sure that the literacy test was very basic and dumbed-down from the beginning.

When I attended public schools in the 60's and 70's, teachers were not much better. My father was a very educated man. While he had your typical college education of pre-1960 era, he was a life-long learner. I received a great deal of my education at the dinner table from my father as he attempted to undo the harm my teachers bestowed upon me. My children received the same treatment, although more fully since they were homeschooled for the majority of their education.

When will teachers who refuse to go back to the classroom get fired?
