The state of New York recently passed a law requiring prospective school teachers to take a literacy test to get their license, but repealed it the following year because 36 percent of whites, 54 percent of Hispanics and 59 percent of blacks failed.

The Board of Education should also have to prove themselves in literacy in most states...politics have no place in education but it stands tall in unions, classrooms and sports. The hate talk that comes from some teachers today is mind boggling...narrow minded and illiterate come to mind when thinking of teachers....
You can almost be sure that the literacy test was very basic and dumbed-down from the beginning.
When I attended public schools in the 60's and 70's, teachers were not much better. My father was a very educated man. While he had your typical college education of pre-1960 era, he was a life-long learner. I received a great deal of my education at the dinner table from my father as he attempted to undo the harm my teachers bestowed upon me. My children received the same treatment, although more fully since they were homeschooled for the majority of their education.
