Microsoft files a new patent to let you mine bitcoin using your brain activity

Today, a new cryptocurrency is released into the digital cryptocurrency economy through a process known as mining. However, crypto mining is a deeply energy-intensive process. “Mining” bitcoin involves solving complex mathematical problems in order to create new bitcoins. Bitcoin miners are later rewarded with a fraction of Bitcoin for every problem they solved.

According to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, bitcoin mining in 2020 consumes 120 gigawatts (GW) per second. This converts to about 63 terawatt-hours (TWh) per year and thus increases the annual CO2 emissions, which leads to global warming. The CBECI further notes that the amount of energy consumed by bitcoin mining today is equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of Argentina.

To address the environmental impact of bitcoin energy consumption, Microsoft is proposing to develop a cryptocurrency mining system that allows people to mine cryptocurrencies by “monitoring people’s brain activity and other personal biometric data.” Microsoft’s idea will eliminate the need for specialized cryptocurrency mining equipment.

You do need the “gates vaccine implant” for it to work. (/s)

Seriously stupid. Making money from brainpower? What genius thought of this?

bitcoin mining in 2020 consumes 120 gigawatts (GW) per second.

Is that like consuming 25 miles per gallon every hour?

NOTE: A GW is a unit of POWER, not ENERGY.

This is basically a buckshot patent.

Tells us more about what Microsoft speculates will be possible, rather than an actual working technology.

"Mine" bitcoin? What kind of "mining" is that? You turn on a computer and don't get your hands dirty. They sure puff themselves up. And most of all it's nothing they are "mining". When the grid goes down, their "coins" won't be worth a bucket of warm spit.

“Microsoft files a new patent to let you mine bitcoin using your brain activity”

Well, that leaves out about 80% of us. For another 15%, it will hurt like hell.

Stupid tech writers. Title should be “Microsoft files FOR a [[new]] patent WHICH ENABLES BRAIN ACTIVITY TO MINE BITCOIN”
[[to enable use of let you mine bitcoin using your brain activity]]”

Intellectual property laws and treaties are supposed to foster innovation for the good of humanity. Patent and trade secret laws, in particular, exchange a limited amount of our natural rights (such as the right to learn, innovate, copy the successful accomplishments of others, etc.) in order to speed up the process of invention. But some areas of “innovation” need to be slowed down, not sped up.

No genetic codes such be patentable.

And attempts, such as this one, to stake a claim on the bodies of other human beings should likewise enjoy NO intellectual property protection of any kind.

Software should be limited to 5 years of protection and become open source after this time period.

While we are at it, get rid of multi-national corporations. They are an assault on nationalism, a threat to human rights, and further the centralization of global power, which is the greatest threat of tyranny in the history of the world.

Hmmm. MS has a good chance of getting this allowed based on the prior art.

This method will make you rich, give M$ direct access to your brain 24/7/360. If you are fortunate in your petitions, they may even let you out of the feeding and evacuation tubes to actually stand up in your walker

Nicki, babe, how do you “consume 120 gigawatts (GW) per second”?

Journalists don’t have a clue about power, energy and work, nor do they understand dimensional analysis.
