SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS MEMORANDUM SMMC Core Values Mem [worse than bad: the enemy is us; it's not your father's military. See comment]
US Marine corps ^ | February 22 2021 | SMMC Troy E. Black

[Excerpts]

4. ..some [recruits] arrive with mindsets and biases that are wholly inconsistent with our way of thinking. We must speak plainly and forcefully with our recruits and candidates from day one, and tell them that..sexists, bigots, homophobes...are not welcome. It is impossible to be both a good Marine, and be any one of those things at the same time...

5. Introducing an individual to our core values and explaining how they work in practice during entry level training is important. In fact, it is critical if we are to establish uniform expectations for every Marine. However, it is also insufficient. The battle to change a person’s mindset takes time and consistent effort.

An individual enters the Marine Corps with at least 17 years of life experience and potential biases that establish a foundation for that individual’s mindset about race and ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, and the use of coercive power over subordinates. Thirteen weeks of recruit training has an impact on changing and overcoming potential flaws with these mindsets, but we need more effort to sustain the transformation...

6. Stand downs featuring lectures and presentations about our values and what is expected of every Marine have their place, but their impact on a person’s mindset is limited. More important is the role of enlisted leaders in setting the example, indicating by their words and deeds that they adhere to a positive vision of what it means to be a Marine who values the service of every individual.

7. I expect leaders who see any sexism, racism, or other destructive attitudes in the ranks to step in immediately and intervene, just like you would to stop an impending safety mishap.

In those instances when leaders see indicators of these “sub-cultures” they should address the problem head-on by engaging directly with individuals and small groups, reinforcing the teacher-scholar/senior-subordinate relationship advocated by our 13th Commandant, Major General Lejeune. I believe that through discussion, teaching, and mentorship, leaders can help replace destructive attitudes with a more positive vision encapsulated in the Marine Corps’ core values and tradition, more in line with a true culture of recognizing the intrinsic value found in every Marine. Those Marines unwilling to accept our core values should be separated.

8. Our Hallmarks as Marines are discipline and spirit. We have been known for our willingness to hold leaders accountable for the malign actions of the individual. It is time for us to embrace this mentality once again; and hold ourselves accountable for failing to identify and hold responsible those to our left or right that are failing to adhere to our core values....

If you are the senior enlisted leader of a unit and the “sub- cultures” of...sexism, extremism, or hazing exists within that unit, then I am looking to you to create the appropriate climate and to communicate your rejection of these attitudes and behaviors which are clearly incompatible with our core values.

10. I expect enlisted leaders and Marines at all levels to support one another as we collectively combat racism, sexism, extremism, and hazing. Enough is enough, help each other exercise the moral courage to look for signs of these negative behaviors and to intervene when necessary. We must eliminate the “sub-cultures” that give these behaviors life....

Mission First, Marines Always! Semper Fidelis

Conditioning/indoctrination is part of boot camp. But, in the past it was the recruit’s innate love of country that was harnessed, amplified to overcome fear in the face of the enemy in order to accomplish the mission.

Today, it looks like they’re transitioning from that to a program that builds on enmity and animosity of the country. That’s a PROFOUND shift.

Put another way, the Old Corps wanted to exploit the recruit’s patriotism by reinforcing the perceived goodness of the Nation. They did that through fidelity to TRADITIONAL AMERICAN VALUES. The New Corps wants to suppress that patriotism by undermining traditionally American values.

This will end poorly. It makes me sick what they’re doing to an Institution I spent most of my adult life working for.

I went first to the link and read what the moron said. Then I went to the thread and read it with his comments. Reading the original and then his comments adds context as to his opinion.

I know, I know, Freepers are not usually going to read past the headline, let alone the original article. . .such is FR.

This clown is another of the tools that publicly attacked Tucker Carlson. Sounds like another Mattis type. A little too supportive of the homos and trannies.

“military-industrial complex”

Well. . . .What I posted before. . .if you have time:

The business of arms manufacturing and foreign military sales provides a critical foundation to US National Security Strategy/Policy.

Without a robust foreign military sales program (FMS), the US would be denied significant access and influence tools and the US defense industry would be at risk, thereby threatening US national security.

A detailed examination and an understanding of foreign military sales processes and motivations are necessary to fully comprehend why the US engages in on-going R&D, arms manufacturing and foreign military sales. From this understanding specific benefits to US political interests, military capability and industry can be identified as primary motivators shaping arms sales.

The international arms trade via government-run foreign military sales (FMS) is not well understood.

FMS is oft-times misrepresented in popular media, in agenda-driven reporting/monitoring organizations and ignorant people who have not studied the issue.

Consequently, many people are unaware of the driving forces behind arms manufacturing and FMS and usually associate those activities with unrealistic but entertaining fantasy or simply object to such activities altogether.

The subject is further confused by a myriad of Executive Branch FMS bureaucratic processes, laws, regulations, as well as Congress.

President Eisenhower’s 1961 (often taken out of context) “military industrial complex” speech contributes to an enduring negative view of the defense industry.

Indeed, President Eisenhower’s speech is cited as a warning about the defense industry and its growing influence among the “councils of government.”

However, in context, President Eisenhower acknowledged the need for a robust defense industry and called on informed citizenry and politicos to “recognize the imperative need for this development.”

The “development” referred to a healthy defense industry, in other words, we no longer could just open a factory and start to manufacture massive amounts of arms quickly during a crisis.

Consequently, far from condemning the defense industry, he was recognizing its vital role in advancing US political, economic and military goals.

He also warned about academia and their growing influence and reliance on government funds.

Never thought I’d see the day when the Sergeant Major of the USMC would be a traitor to the nation and so unmanly.

1. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps has always been a completely useless position in the Marine Corps, a ceremonial position that doesn't actually accomplish anything and this ridiculous "woke" statement proves that point conclusively.

2. The "71% of the young people are ineligible" is also a stupid lie: when I enlisted in the Marine Corps, we had fat people, stupid people, and convicted criminals who chose the Corps instead of prison. They all got skinnier in boot camp and most did fine in combat, maybe with a slight edge for our criminals.

3. This idiot statement by the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps is not based in reality: the truth is that any kind of sexuality is corrosive to the cohesion of units and their ability to succeed in battle. Anyone with any experience at all in combat knows that if couples form, allegiance to the unit falls apart. It is is worse yet with homosexuals; they form chains of external allegiances and as we found out while investigating the "Lesbian Mafia" in the Marine Corps in the late 90s, the senior leaders rewarded those young women that went along with them through promotions, awards and good assignments, while punishing those that didn't "get along" with them. I was one of the Investigating Officers for the IG at the time and it was a case of absolute corruption from top to bottom and took years to finally root most of it out.

I seriously doubt that anyone who has served as a Marine in wartime would ever agree with anything this idiot is putting out.

“4. ..some [recruits] arrive with mindsets and biases that are wholly inconsistent with our way of thinking.”

Translation: The first question to ask new recruits - Are you willing to shoot unarmed American civilians who do not share our values?

If you hear suspicious answers, you know what to do.

Anybody know where the enlistment figures are located online? I saw something similar from CSM of the Army last week. This crap will drive enlistments and re-enlistments down.

Social distraction at best, will not result in a “house cleaning purge”.

it's not the purge that worries me it's the impossible task of recruiting.

So my idiot step son joined the Marines in December 2017. About 6 weeks into training he called his Sr. DI a F’n N.....

I got a call from the Company Commander that night who told me about it.

The first question I had was is he still alive, and the next question I asked is why are they calling me? I told him he was 19 yr old adult male and why is this my problem and that I figured they would mete out the appropriate punishment.

They ended up pulling him out of that platoon and restarting his training from day 1 with a fresh platoon. 7 weeks later he stole some guys mail and he was out for good then.

That was in February 2018 and I haven’t seen to him since he shipped out in December 2017 or talked to him since.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I received an e-mail directing attendance at a "Standdown against Extremism" on a US Army network. A backup message said contractors were not required to attend. It's not just the Marines.

Values.

Seems like what the SGM is talking about - treating others as Marines and not bringing civilian biases and prejudices into the equation. Used to be this was about race. Now, we have recruits that are infused with this garbage, and they have to be re-programmed to think ‘Marine’ and not always ‘SJW’. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

Sergeant Majors - the bane of the enlisted existence, until they retire. Then they are the absolutely coolest ex-military guys on the planet. Nothing more fun than passing time with an EX-SGM and a couple beers.

I’m tired of my country, America, playing nice with the rest of the world.
We need to be feared or the world will take advantage of us.
being feared is a good thing.

The list is rather flat and doesn't explicitly include anything about transgender kooks or homosexuals or 'antigovernment' opinions.

I would take that as resistance at this point.

Where will the U.S. Armed Forces recruit the Alvin Yorks, Audie Murphys, Carlos Hathcocks, and Chris Kyles, since conservative straight white males are not welcome? The U.S. military cannot rely on beta males, women, and perverts to defend this country. China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are fully aware of American decadence and will act in their own interests with little fear of the once mighty U.S. military.

As a former Marine, there is a lot in this that is both perfectly normal, and perfectly justified. Racism in the military can be a cancer for unit cohesion and performance, so of course you want to teach troops that is wrong. Even sexism, at least to some extent.

But this is very clearly going beyond that by expressly mentioning "attitudes" regarding "gender and sexual identity." Read fairly, the Sgt. Maj. is telling Marines that if they don't believe that personal preference is the determining factor as to whether someone is a male or female, the Marine Corps doesn't want them. If you think biological males who "identify" as female shouldn't be competing in sporting events as females, that is inconsistent with Marine Corps values.

That is just messed up. These are not settled issues, and are still hotly debated politically. This means the Marine Corps is taking sides in fundamentally political disputes, and that is simply wrong. The Corps should be able to regulate how Marines behave. It should not be attempting to control their "attitudes", or what they think.

My beloved Corps has crossed a line that never should have been crossed, and is going to alienate the fundamentally conservative young men who historically have formed the central core of the Marines.

Very, very sad.
