Yup, your right. Like the saying long ago was that when people learn they can live off the free government dime, we are done. We are there now. More living off the free damned government dime than working. There are signs all over the place around here wanting people to work. Hell the McDonalds near here has been advertising with signs along side the road for weeks. They cannot get people to work at $10 an hour. Managers starting at $12 an hour. No one wants to work when the damned government is handing out free money by the pot full.
Tell your kin folk that they must be looking at a much different place than this country boy from Alabama is. I may be just a "southern hick" to a bunch of leftist liberals in this country, but I am certainly knowledgeable enough to recognize that OVER 100 MILLION citizens of this Republic are NOT HAPPY with how this nation is being run and the road this mob is taking this nation. Fans of William Gibson novels will recognize this setup instantly - he called them "corporate arcologies" and they're little self-contained worlds unto themselves. Think of how popular you'd be parking a new Ford in a GM plant parking lot. Now add the death penalty. Apple phone on the Google campus? Confiscate his ration card!
What we really need in the United States is a written plan of government that applies to everybody. I saw one once - they called it the Constitution but nobody's sighted it in many years...

Here's one example of the ineptitude of Google. They wanted to bring Fiber to a city, but did not want to have anything to do with easement or right-of-way acquisitions. So they bribed the Mayor to permit them to jack up the streets to 'bury' their cable.
This amounted to a weird Google proprietary asphalt-punch tool that could cross streets with cable slightly 'buried' under the road, and then Google covered this with semi-hot patch (the patch not so much Google proprietary, but just shitty semi-hot patch rubber).
Et voila, in the first year of Google Fiber coming to town, the semi-hot patch immediately eroded everywhere it was laid, exposing the fiber line and ruining streets.
Six months later Google was quietly GONE, having fired everyone involved with their Fiber project, while doubling-down on the Mayor's bribe to keep the city-county from pursuing them in court for the cost of repair to the streets.
