The FDA Advisory Panel just recommended approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to the boss. Emergency Use Authorization is expected tomorrow (Sat 27 Feb), with the first deliveries Monday.

This is all very sad to me. It is a highly survivable disease. 40 years of promoting sugae obesity has brought about an epidemic of chronic disease. The real epidemic.
We’re looking for about 250 million from one report I read. I doubt it has to really be that many as there are already millions who have achieved immunity naturally.

CVS Pharmacy sent out a text message this morning saying they had vaccine available. I went to their web site a couple hours later and there wasn’t a dose in all of California that wasn’t reserved by people.
I kept checking last week and kept coming up “None available.” Then one of our health systems got a supply, I quickly snagged a spot, and got dose #1 on Monday this week. It’s a pain that they didn’t have a “Contact me when back in stock” feature on the various web sites. Almost all of the health systems made you wade through all the same questions over and over and over until you got to the page saying “None available at this time.” Why couldn’t they just put that on the front page?

There was the biggest supply disruption of the whole Program last week (Bad weather and a Federal holiday). Several days went by with no significant deliveries. A sudden drought in supply.
The last 3-4 days have seen the biggest delivery surge of the whole Program (7 million one day, 6.5 million the next!), more than making up for the delayed deliveries. Plus, the third producer (Johnson & Johnson) is expected to start shipping Monday.
Expect appointments to start opening up now, as those inventories are logged in to the retail databases.
But... but... but... I was told that nobody wanted these because they’re poison that will rewrite your DNA and turn you into a newt!

The Biden Admin wants to get as many adults as possible vaccinated, and has discussed 250 million as a significant threshold for herd immunity. (that might also be the total of those estimated to be willing to receive it - about 75% of the population)
Operation Warp Speed (Trump Admin) also intended to vaccinate most adults, but discussed the first 100 million on the priority list (including everyone over 65 who wants it) as a significant threshold for ending the Public Health emergency.
By this point, it seems likely that around 100 million Americans have already been exposed through natural infection. Some estimates are as high as 150, or even 180 million.

The 1st two counts are counts of people... the last count is doses. I know... it still doesn’t add up. Close enough for government work, I guess.
And now the obese (and smokers) are being rewarded with a higher priority in receiving the vaccine for the highly survivable disease.

Yes, the 22 million is part of the 47 million FOR PURPOSES OF COUNTING THEIR 1ST DOSE. They are also part of the 22 million FOR PURPOSES OF COUNTING THEIR 2ND DOSE. When a person gets his first dose he’s added to the first count. When he later gets his 2nd dose his “count” remains as part if the first count and he is added as another count in the 2nd count.
BTW, I forgot to mention, yesterday: My wife had an odd 2nd shot side effect that lasted about 30 hours, starting maybe 10 hours after the shot. Many things felt cold to her. This was not chills, but a sensation of cold from things she was touching that were actually warm, like dishwater or the shower. Or me. :-(
Her perception of self-heat seemed ok. (Once snuggled under fluffy bedding, that felt fine / warm to her.)
Odd, but temporary.
