After Californians poured into the streets of cities across the state to protest police brutality and racism last summer, elected leaders pledged to implement reforms.

"Busted taillight. That's a $50 fine in Seward County."
Finally! Berkeley does something that makes sense.
Having the police enforce automobile regulations was the worst thing ever to happen to LE.
Before automobiles, unless you were in the middle of committing an actual crime, you would be happy to see a police officer - they would be there to serve and protect YOU.
Now, everyone feels slight dread at the sight of a cop. Are my turn signals working? Are my inspection stickers up to date? Did I come to a full stop?
And the speeding thing is ridiculous - everyone goes over the speed limit. Having cops driving around scrutinizing your driving is not that much different than having cops walking in to your home to check if your insurance is up to date or if you are violating any ordinances or building codes. Or maybe they would want to check if your kids are getting the proper nutrition.
Even small children pick up on it when they see their parents bristle at the sight of a cop.
I’m 68 and I have NEVER had the cops protect be from anything - every interaction has been them hassling me over something petty.
It’s too bad, because if not for the fact that 99% of people’s exposure to cops is to traffic cops, people would have a lot more respect for police, and they would even be glad to see them.
That happened to me in Walmart recently; the green and red floor signs seem to be suggestions for living in civilization, not shopping at Walmart.
The very definition of lawlessness is to merely ignore the law.
Anarcho-tyranny is our new model.
Another reason not to go to California.
Turns out Mel Gibson’s “Road Warrior” will be a documentary.
Me and my fiends are hauling ass up Shasta Rd to Wildcat Canyon on race motosikles as fast as we can ride.
That’s funny. Reminds me of the prison asylum in “Midnight Express”.
California aka Hell on Earth

I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees it like this. Thank you for sharing my thoughts too. They’ve become tax collectors with traffic stops and it’s a shame.
I got pulled over once for a tail light out that I didn’t know about and thought I’d be respectful by opening my door since my window wasn’t working, the guy threatened me. I couldn’t freaking believe that he would threaten me for something to me that was so innocent. I haven’t respected them since. Thanks Fairfax County PD.
But you must have on a seatbelt!
Wear your mask!
I totally agree. While we are at it, get rid of license plates. Police are supposed to exist to investigate crime, and protect society and people.
I have been known to call them tax collectors through my driver side window. Needless to say, if I am pulled over I get a ticket EVERY time. I went to court three times for seatbelt violations. I fought every time, using logic and the “not governments job” to keep me belted in. I have never been caught riding without a helmet yet, of course most of my riding is not on city streets or hiways.
Funny.
There was a greeting card of a frantic man calling his wife from home. "Watch out, dear. The radio said there's a crazy woman driving the wrong way on the freeway. She's gonna kill somebody."
Wife in car with fist-shaking drivers around her: "Only one woman going the wrong way? I passed a dozen cars doing that just now."
Picture of illicit backyard cell meeting of domestic terrorists....
Boy and girl are segregated by sex and forced into gender regardless of their inner confusions.
How many undocumented people are living in the house with the family?
Is the man taking over a male supremacy head of the nuclear family role despite feminist needs of the woman?
Are the hot dogs seaweed/okra/alfalfa sprout ones or actual beef, implying use of resources to raise cattle?
When you go to court over a traffic accident-—wait until Judge Judy hears this!!!
I’m no liberal/prog by any stretch of the imagination but I do agree that the police need major reform in this country.
They have too much power and they too often at times abuse it.
I think there is going to be a rights awakening soon in this country. People just don’t understand their right when dealing with them. The way I see it is that they are not there to help you, they are there only to enforce the law.
Kids should be taught in school or home on how to deal with them. People just assume that you have to obey their every command whether it’s furnishing ID, answering questions (which they use to build their case against you) and so much more.
Every encounter should be recorded by both parties.
The qualified immunity part should be the first thing to go. Start holding these officers accountable and the BS will eventually subside. Fire those who violate rights, lock those up who abuse their power and we’ll all be better off.
My best bud was a cop for 17 years in the DC area and some of his stories will make you lose all faith in the PD; it’s downright frightening.
My favorite Brother in Law went from Deputy, to Officer then to Detective in our County. He was moved to Detective because he was a good cop, and I swear because he refused to write seat belt violations and other nit picky things.
We were shooting the bull one afternoon, while I showed him my 66 F250 I turned into a work truck. I hadn’t used it yet, because of no license illumination. He didn’t believe the number of reasons I had been ticketed in the past, including no plate light.
Now he is the lead investigator for the State Welfare and Medical division. Busting real criminals who are making BANK on our dime. He could not play the tax man role cops are hired to fill.
I’m so disappointed in you. You are assuming boy and girl based on outward appearances. That’s real heteronormative of you.
(I can’t believe I know that “heteronormative” word and actually used it. I need to go shower)
