Heidi Cruz 'Pissed' That A Friend Ratted Her Out To Media About Cancun Trip

The group chat was labelled “XXXX Lovelies” (presumably the name of their street); it included some of the women in the Cruz family’s neighbourhood. The subject was the cold weather they were experiencing in Texas, but it quickly turned to going away, when Heidi, the wife of Republican Senator Ted Cruz, asked whether any of the families were up for a trip to Cancun.

The Cruz family getaway, of course, went viral, and the Texas senator, 50, faced fierce backlash after pictures emerged of the couple and their two daughters, Caroline, 12, and Cathryn, 10, flying out of the state while millions struggled without power, heat and water during a deadly storm, the Daily Mail reports.

And now, it seems, one of the group members spilled the tea to the New York Times, providing them with evidence of the group chats, as seen here:

Heidi texted “Anyone can or want to leave for the week? We may go to Cancun …,” adding that there were flights available and that the Ritz-Carlton hotel had availability at $309 a night.

“Could have all been avoided had Cruz not abandoned his State in a time of crisis.”

You are oh, so correct. There is absolutely nothing Cruz could have done to correct the problem.

Parliamentary role

During sitting weeks—about 18 to 20 weeks a year—senators are engaged in parliamentary duties, including:

debating and voting on bills—proposed laws.
representing state/territory views in Parliament.
working on committees that examine important issues.
attending parliamentary party meetings to decide on party policy.
scrutinising—closely examining—the work of the government.
discussing issues of national and international importance.

State/territory role

When Parliament is not sitting, senators are engaged in duties in their states or territories, including:

working on committees to collect information from community organisations and lobby groups that want to present their views to Parliament.
helping constituents who may be having difficulties with issues such as taxes, immigration, health or pensions.
speaking with community groups such as pensioner associations and sporting clubs.
visiting schools and making presentations.
meeting with constituents and taking their views back to Parliament.

I wish someone would point out to me where it says anything in the job description where a senator has anything to do with a natural disaster other than be one. And I don’t like Cruz, but he didn’t do anything others probably did also…get their families out of the problem into a better living situation until it was corrected by the proper people. Those being people hired, appointed, or deployed to do the work. This is not a ribbon cutting.

Cruz should have taken the SCOTUS job. As a Senator, he would move straight to a vote, no hearings. Considering what a putz Kavanaugh is Cruz would have been a better option. Cruz has always had a tendency to shoot himself in the foot politically. He did nothing wrong, seriously he had the ability to get his family out of a very dangerous situation. I would have done the same thing. That said, he would have been better off as a judge.

And what, exactly, was he supposed to do? Shovel the entire state? Deliver fireplace logs to everyone? Sitting on his ass at home would have done ZERO to change anything.

If politicians are supposed to be with their constituents during emergencies and troubles...then why in Sam Hill are any of those jackwads up in DC during this pandemic?!

They need to sit their miserable butts in their home states with no pay until this passes.

I don’t care that Cruz wasn’t in Texas all through this, what could he have done to make my life better- nothing.

If they need to sit through our misery with us then ALL of them need to and a pandemic is one of those times.

Maybe if they were sitting home with no pay and businesses closing all around them and no supplies available at the stores, then they might quit with this horse scat.

Predictably, butt-hurt FReepers attack a decent Republican senator. Pathetic.

Cruz did nothing wrong other than being a Republican.

I agree.

As if no politician gets donations from your unapproved Corporations.......

Thank you for the insults....it reveals your weak position.

Cruz took low-interest loans from Goldman Sachs and Citibank that he failed to report as the law mandates.

He deceived voters.

You can support scum like that, but I, and many others, have had enough of two-faced Republicans.

If he could nothing why did he rush back to Texas, apologize numerous
times, then get a photo op delivering water?
Why didn’t he just stay in Cancun, issue a statement saying there is
nothing he could do to help Texans?

“If you’re going to badmouth Cruz, don’t do it on FR!”

I am not bad-mouthing Cruz. He lied on something the law mandates. That is a FACT.

But you want to act like a snowflake and ignore the fact that Cruz has been caught lying many times.

You are free to give him your blind trust, but most of us will not.

How am I helping them? By agreeing with Teddy that he made a mistake?
He admitted numerous times that he made a mistake. I agree he made a mistake.

Heidi from what I’ve gathered makes almost $1 million per year. I’d say she probably calls the shots.

What did Cornyn do during the big freeze?

Cruz should of at least done that. Not a peep about Cornyn.

Cruz committed an unforced error at the behest of his apparently very needy wife. He chose happy wife over political reality.

Cruz “represents” the state in Washington DC. He isn’t the guy that the people of Texas voted to be the Governor and handle these things. That’s what the Governor, state legislature, county commissions, and city councils are for.

It’s amazing how so many say they hate big government, but at the first sign of a problem they all want to run to Uncle Sugar for help.

Abbott is escaping a lot with this ridiculous story.

Does anyone here think that Abbott was wrong asking Harris & Biden for permission to run the plants at full capacity? I do. A real leader would have told the current administration to pound salt up their a$$es and got everything going. He would have ordered the power plants to run at full capacity and not wait on CornPop or his boss, Harris. He should be fully aware that they don’t give a sh*t.

Look at what Schumer said....Texas learned a lesson.

Maybe he’s right. But the lesson should be, DO NOT depend on the federal government for anything. NOTHING. NADA. NIL. Do what you want and what needs to be done. The state can survive perfectly fine on its own.

Not that there are any competent Democratic Governors, but do any of you think any of them, in a similar situation would have asked President Trump for permission? They ignored any federal law they wanted. They either would have done what they wanted or they would have been on the media 24/7 railing against the President. They don’t care about people dying as long as it can hurt their political opponents.

Oh wait....that was already done and now Cuomo is feeling some heat, although nothing will come of it. They’re just getting him out of the way for 2024, that’s all.

Aside from the lives it may have saved and misery avoided, this would have been a perfect time for a state to stand up to and ignore the incompetence in the White House right now. That may sound too political, but this whole thing is political. The Dem’s have made it that way.

The one person who tried to do things the right way, isn’t in the White House anymore.

Sad thing is, President Trump would have ordered the power plants to increase their output, himself. But we don’t have that kind of leadership anymore.

I think that’s just an excuse to continue being mad that Cruz ran in the primary against Trump.

Cruz was running before Trump announced.

I’m glad Trump won and I supported him, but many here on FreeRepublic wouldn’t know a loyal conservative if they saw one.

Then tell me if he did nothing wrong or could not be helpful why he rushed
back to Texas and apologized numerous times? Either he lied about making
a mistake or was too spineless to defend himself or his trip.
Which one is it?
