The group chat was labelled “XXXX Lovelies” (presumably the name of their street); it included some of the women in the Cruz family’s neighbourhood. The subject was the cold weather they were experiencing in Texas, but it quickly turned to going away, when Heidi, the wife of Republican Senator Ted Cruz, asked whether any of the families were up for a trip to Cancun.
The Cruz family getaway, of course, went viral, and the Texas senator, 50, faced fierce backlash after pictures emerged of the couple and their two daughters, Caroline, 12, and Cathryn, 10, flying out of the state while millions struggled without power, heat and water during a deadly storm, the Daily Mail reports.
And now, it seems, one of the group members spilled the tea to the New York Times, providing them with evidence of the group chats, as seen here:
Heidi texted “Anyone can or want to leave for the week? We may go to Cancun …,” adding that there were flights available and that the Ritz-Carlton hotel had availability at $309 a night.

This whole “scandal” is a testimony to his stupid Republicans are - and I DON’T mean Ted Cruz.
Cruz did nothing wrong other than being a Republican. The politicians that should be destroyed by this Texas energy shortage is the Democrats.
This should be Biden’s Katrina - yet the media has targeted Ted Cruz instead - and even a lot of gullible FReepers join in.

I was a very early boarder on the Trump Train, so I am aware of all Cruz’s flaws. But folks - isn’t it obvious who benefits from a story like this?
Cruz messed up by acting defensive and groveling immediately. He let the media set the narrative that he had somehow done something wrong. You’d think after 4 years he would have learned something from Trump.
Yep. I learned that lesson by age 6. Friends = boys, dogs, cats and horses.
I guess I'm a little jaded about this one but where I live we get power outages in winter and summer all the time when we get bad storms. Maybe not statewide but over several couties we'll have sustained power outtages that last up to a week typically once every other year or so. Much of this is because the lines are surrounded by old trees now (because they were installed 50, 60, 70 years ago) and old trees fall onto power lines and it takes time to safely cut them all off and restore power to everyone.
I've personally sat in my cold dark house keeping the water from freezing up over several days with only fire to keep me warm. I never once thought 'if only my Senator was here to work on the lines...'
But that's just me. If Cruz really wanted the problem to go away he should just change parties. Being a dem means never having to say you're sorry. Other than that, he should accept that he's always going to be picked apart no matter what. Ted Cruz going to cancun is a bigger scandal than Cuomo lying about murdering seniors because the media wants it to be, so there it is.
There is a strong negativity streak on FR.
But Heidi and Cruz did play this whole thing poorly. Either be unapologetic about it and take the lumps of people who worship surface over substance or don’t go to Cancun.
If you do and admit fault, just shut up about the whole thing.

Cruz has been a loyal conservative, an advocate for our 2nd Amendment rights before the Supreme Court, pro-life, less government, and still all because Ted Cruz ran in the same primary as President Trump they still bash and hate him.
It’s what happens when emotions over rule logic and loyalty.
Ted Cruz is a great guy. Never give an inch of remorse to Democrat losers. Turn it around on them like Trump. I guarantee this article is a lie because it’s a Liberal trash site.
