Just checked your posting history. 99% bitching and moaning, Hardly a single worthy contribution. Nothing of value to share or help the cause. You ought to be real proud of yourself. Jerk.

The top one is a DC/DC converter power supply evaluation module (EVM). The blown-up area is where an inductor would be. I use these boards to evaluate my chip designs.

They used to have a really nice section with over-the-air TV antennas, masts, accessories, for instance. Not much of that stuff around in brick and mortar any more. And it was more than a few odd/obscure items.

I liked them quite well 15 or so years ago, built a couple of nice tower PCs with stuff from the one by Gwinnett Place.

You could also buy everything you needed to build your own motherboard. Used to work two blocks from the store in Sunnyvale, CA. Been to the Vegas and the Phoenix store too.

Here, I'll date myself. I used to buy my regular groceries at Fry's before they became the go-to place for electronics. That was back in the late 60’s in the San Jose, CA, area. Yes, I am THAT old. :-)

I remember going into the first ‘store’ in Sunnyvale.

They had stuff to drink, eat, pretty much covered the gamet of tech toys and tools, you name it..

Used to use the Brokaw location a lot at one time, then moved recently and used the Arques store which was always pretty much all parking lot with a few cars in it. Shoppers were few and far between. Shelves barren and large areas of floor space.. empty of anything.

a 21 checkout cash register salute to you, Fry’s. You gave it a shot. Maybe they can use your parking lots for mass vaccination sites.

Fry’s closing no surprise to few deal with electronics and kits same happened to Radio Shack to many hooked on computers and cell phones.
About the only people working with electronics are ham radio operators a damned shame.
Heathkit store was a great place one could even build your own TV and many other items great fun.

In the early 90s, Fry’s was the place to go to see all that was new in tech. I remember when I saw my first flat-screen plasma TV there, list price $14,999.00. I thought to myself, someday.

Yup, poor service.

I was in a Fry’s looking for some obscure board, and found it in a locked case. I wandered around looking for help, but none of the salesfloor would help because they work on commission.

So, since no one was coming around to help, I started breaking into the glass case, fully expecting security to swoop down on me. Nope. I pulled the board from the glass case, went to the aisle, paid for it, and never went back to that Fry’s in Santa Clara, CA.

On the upside, when I purchased a refurbished computer at the Fry’s on East Brokaw in San Jose, I bought the 3 year extended warranty. That warranty paid off 3 separate times, best warranty I ever bought.

Is that the store just north of Lawrence Expressway? I considered that to be Santa Clara, hard to tell where the border is.

I have to say that I really liked their stores and have bought numerous items there over the years. Sorry to see them closing up.

Their pricing seemed to beat everyone else, too. Now with less competition the merchant will have more the upper hand.
