Texas Sen. Ted Cruz admitted Thursday that traveling to Cancun, Mexico as his constituents suffered in freezing homes amid power outages was "obviously a mistake."

The Republican spoke outside his Texas home as a sizable group of protesters chanted just yards away.

"It was obviously a mistake, and in hindsight, I wouldn't have done it," Cruz acknowledged. He reiterated his previous contention that he had gone in order to take his daughters to Mexico to get them out of the cold. "I was trying to be a dad," he said. "When you've got two girls who have been cold for two days and haven't had heat or power, and they're saying 'Look, we don't have school, why don't we go - let's get out of here . . . " The senator will join Sean Hannity Thursday night on Hannity at 9pm et.

Thanks for your comments, and I agree with them.

You know, I’ll bet some of these people can’t understand why
a military superior tours the hospital after a campaign when
a number of his men have been injured.

He can’t heal them. He can’t take away their pain. He can’t
make it so nothing bad happened to them.

There are many things he can’t do, but he can look at those
men in the eye and be one with them for a few minutes.

He can express his sorrow, let them know he cares, and let
them know he hurts because they do.

He will encourage them. He will tell them how proud he is
of them. He will declare them heroes and explain as best
he can how much they accomplished that they may not have
been aware of.

Class shows class.

A poor choice given the circumstances but at least he had a non-selfish reason for the trip unlike the hypocrisy of Nancy, the hairdo Mayors of DC and Chicago, Thanksgiving lockdown Mayor of Denver, DeBleckio in NY, Witcher of Mich, etc etc ad nauseum.

Never had much love for the man, but this is total bull.

You'all need to find something to do, something constructive.

Perhaps he should run any vacay plans past pelosi, or shmuckie.

Wouldn't want them to disapprove of the location or timing, after all.

I could understand rats circling the house making hay, they would do same if he had spinach between his teeth.Doubt there are many stuck in the weather in Texas would not trade places and skedaddle to somewhere warm and sunshine for a vacation during the Winter.

Perhaps all republican pols should plan ahead and be sure to be in the thick of it during a Tornado, an earthquake, a hurricane, wild fire etc. Wouldn't want rats to disapprove, or people here do the tsk tsk.

Bunch of friggin losers, allayas.

Is he on our side or theirs? If he’s on side, then we need to support him. He fights for us and has been pretty good lately.

We have to stop letting radicals call out this stuff and then reacting like they have the moral high ground. They don’t!

Q: Which of his constituents who are without power, heat, water, food, gasoline - managed to drag themselves to his house to stage a protest for television cameras? A: Likely none.

I've watched these threads with interest today, and have read your comments on a number of them. I too, really had little to say, until some of the ridiculous defenses of Cruz's actions just became a little over the top.

I was living in Louisiana at the time of Katrina and Rita in 2005. At that time we had one R Senator (Vitter) and one D (Mary Landrieu). I know for a fact that if, in the days following Katrina, Landrieu had been caught going on a Mediterranean cruise, there is not a single FReeper that would have defended her actions the way Cruz is being defended here. As it stood, Landrieu cynically capitalized on Katrina to try and politically damage GWB and his response, but at least she made it look like she was acting strong on behalf of her constituency. Virtue signaling? Perhaps, but as Lee Atwater was fond of saying, in politics, perception is reality.

Cruz's record as a conservative is generally defensible; he's done a lot of things to promote a conservative agenda. He's also made a good number of boneheaded errors that nearly cost him his last election and on his present trajectory will lose him his next election. I may be accused of being a Cruz hater, but nothing I can do or say will damage Cruz any more than Cruz has damaged himself.

"So the Cruz haters are aligning with the democrats on this."

Not really, just agreeing with his self-proclaimed stupidity that occurred in the last 24 hours. Should of told his wife to have fun, got disaster relief to coordinate. Which contrary to a lot of posters' belief, Senators and HOR reps do engage in disaster relief when a State of Emergency in their representative States/districts occurs (one of the very few instances where government should exists and take care of, State of Nature "thing").

So, your conclusion states that even Ted Cruz hates himself and would never vote for himself in 2024 because he figured out what he did was not justified and apologized for it.

Why is it a mistake to take a vacation? Manufactured controversy. He’s a federal official, not a state official that can change things.

Thanks. I agree with your thoughts there.

That Landrieu example was interesting. Sure we see her as
being cynical, but there is a reason for that. The Bush
slant from her telegraphed her sincerity. There wasn’t any.

I think Ted would be sincere, so I wouldn’t see him as
gaming the situation expressing camaraderie with his state’s
citizens.

People don’t ask for much. During disaster relief you can
see how much people appreciate simple things. I’ve seen
Trump talk to people, and they perk up and feel alive again.

You can’t deny that happens. It does. It’s a leader’s
duty to provide that.

He was on Hannity. His whole street was without power and it got down to 30 in his house. He got his kids out of there. Too bad some are yelling in sync with the Dems.

How quickly we forget - Cruz and Beck handing out teddy bears to illegals. Cruz blaming Trump for the violence during the Chicago rally.

Too many have a knee jerk reaction when the left attacks one of your ‘favorites’. No one cares about the vacation, I do care that when the stove gets hot, Cruz bends the knee REPEATEDLY. Russia hoax, Mueller, Kavanaugh hearings, etc etc etc. Personally, I would fire most of our current leadership for incompetence. A half hearted job isn’t good enough.

Raise your expectations or continue to get the same results.....mirroring the last few decades.

So Federal declarations in terms of monetary grants responding to a disaster and creating itemized fiscal targeting (Just one responsibility of a Federal Senator besides coordination efforts the entail a wide range of infrastructure/agencies) just gets pulled out of a Senator's rectum?

You realize what you are seeing don’t you?

These folks want to run Ted in 2024. Thus they will defend
him against anything he does and gets called on.

I’ve said before that I will never vote for Ted Cruz, and I
meant it.

If they’re stupid enough to put Ted up, they can enjoy the
crash and burn. Many folks won’t bother.

The old days of putting up the RNC GOPe go-to boy are over.

I’ll be out of the party soon. I don’t plan on returning.
