He blamed Trump for Jan 6th just a few weeks ago.

Not surprised. Just like Chicago!

You mean like putting your political ambitions over any concerns for your family’s well being? I guess if you ever evacuated your family during a hurricane or flood you can kiss off that political career.
If you live in Texas you’d do a lot more good by helping your neighbors than worrying about the next election.

That isn’t what he was doing. His daughters wanted to jet off to Cancun.

If he wanted to evacuate he could have gone anywhere in the US. Stayed in the country. Wouldn’t face quarantine issues for reentry. He has to have a negative covid test.

Plenty of people are born here of citizen parents and are natural born citizens as the founders required.

And what is he suppose to do? Would cancelling a planned vacation return warm weather and power?

Talk about shutting the door after the horse left the barn. But hey, nothing he could do any way at all except go on vacation...

Biden hasn’t even given them FEMA help. Cruz should be trying to do something about that.

Exactly. Cruz is a US senator. The founders envisioned US senators as being the state's representative in Washington.

Cruz's JOB is to coordinate between the federal and state governments. That includes pounding the table to get FEMA help to Texas.

Instead, he went on vacation.

Gotta start destroying any potential Republican candidate now. Saint Joe the Chomo must not be challenged. Next up. Rand Paul eats ketchup with his steak and Ron DeSantis shamelessly has two scoops of ice cream.

During times of disasters, both Senators (Besides appealing for declarations) assist in communications with the Health and Human Secretary and Attorney General to assist Federal efforts in maintaining the safety of communities once the Feds declare a SOE, Senators are constantly in contact with FEMA personnel, Senators meet face-to-face with FEMA personnel in the affected areas, Senators aide in developing strategies with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide outreach efforts to veterans (Some are old and incapacitated), they meet with Generals/Colonels commanders concerning military bases/annexes, they further survey the damage in real-time, work the Transitional Sheltering Assistance, meet with State leaders that involves a lot of aspects such as infrastructure, education, utilities, and a bunch of other actions. This has always been done by Representatives whether it's a hurricane, flooding, tornado, etc... until the situation is resolved.

To condense this, Senators are to fact find as much as possible which entails surveying the situation (This disaster is large), not fleeing or adhering to previous personal plans that involve going to a tropical resort. Cruz is a public servant, not a noble or aristocrat and his ass should be assisting in disaster relief, especially since the Senate is not in session. The wishy-washy voters are going to send a message, not just to Cruz, but the entire Party and hypocrites (If this were a democrat, people in this echo chamber would be going bonkers).

Not good. And believe me, he also gave the Dems something to use against him and probably the entire GOP, as well as knock Cuomo out of the news. They’re already using it.

Yup . We’re taking care of ourselves and staying in contact with neighbors . There’s nothing he can do for us that we can’t do for ourselves .

There are currently two threads on this subject and many comments support your position. But what I don’t see are many comments about Biden just ordering FEMA assistance today or any comments on how Governor Abbot is responding. My point is that worrying about what the optics are just creates more fake and phony virtue signaling politicians.
If you do live in Texas, I hope you and your neighbors are getting through these tough times as best as you can.

I’m shocked at how many morons think Cruz is somehow involved with Texas state politics.

Do you understand leadership? Perception?

How are voters going to respond to him during the reelection?

Let me say this, I have seen people fired for much less. They couldn’t fix much, and left he plant/office in the middle of a disaster.

The reason conservatives struggle is we don’t realize perception is as much of a thing as acting. The perception is that Cruz does not care that hospitals in Austin don’t have water and are pooping into bags.
That WILL bite him.

Who cares....
What was Ted to do, shovel little old ladies sidewalks?
Bigger issue is how an oil rich state like Texas is dependent on wind turbines...

And enough of the “freezing”, it was 19 degrees today when I shoved off to work again today. It’s frigging winter ya know.
