Millions in Texas without power as deadly storm brings snow, freezing weather

A deadly winter storm pummeling the country's South and mid-section left millions without power in Texas early Tuesday and spawned a possible tornado that killed three in North Carolina.

In Texas, two people, one a child, died from carbon monoxide poisoning after a car was used to generate power for heat, Houston Police said.

More than 4.1 million people are waking up without power in Texas, according to poweroutage.us., as record low temperatures bring a demand for power that the state's electric grid cannot keep up with.

The areas hardest hit by outages were around Galveston and Houston, according to poweroutage.us.

The storm that dropped snow and ice from Arkansas to Indiana — and brought record-low temperatures from Oklahoma City to Minnesota's Iron Range, where thermometers dipped to minus 38 — was expected to move into the northeast Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. Snow, freezing rain and ice are expected from the Ohio Valley to Pennsylvania and Maine, the forecaster added.

Texas officials pleaded with residents to stay off the roads, conserve power and seal up drafty windows and doors.

At least 25 people have died in weather-related fatalities so far since Thursday, most of them in Texas, as the storm continues to blanket large swathes of the country.

NBC fails to mention the “green” wind turbines, now frozen, contributing to the problem.

24 hours now without power here in DFW. Parts of Ft. Worth are under a boil-water advisory because of a treatment plant power outage. LOL! Boil... with WHAT?!

The deaths are meaningless since they didn’t occur during the “insurrection” at the capital...even though the only death that actually occurred at the capital was a police shooting.

As a society at large, and particularly among those of a more progressive mindset, we like to think of ourselves as more advanced, "smarter," and more sophisticated than those in prior centuries and prior millennia.

Yet, I find it extremely hard to believe that the people of any prior era, if shown the advantages of nuclear, coal and gas, would have opted for wind and solar instead.

At the very least, coal, gas and nuke plants need to be on line and ready to go.

"At the very least, coal, gas and nuke plants need to be on line and ready to go."

Like food, abundant sources of electricity are an impediment to those who would wish to control (and monitor) the population through rationing.

I have a dollar that says once those turbines thaw out at least 25% will be damaged beyond repair.

Any takers?

As we drove east of Amarillo on I 40 we witnessed seemingly endless wind turbine farms. The last trip, I measured a continuous existence of 22 miles of the wind farms.

That is, east of Amarillo, the wind farms along the interstate continue for at least 22 miles.

As you look along the lines, the turbines fade to the horizon.

There are tons of them

“Green energy” advocates and “global warming” alarmists hit hard.

I noticed the degradation of the environment in a recent trip down the Interstate in my former home state. Wind turbines for miles. In a nominally “red” and generally pragmatic state.

When I got up this morning I turned on the television to the Weather Channel. A few minutes past 6:00am, and it was -4 here in southwest Arkansas. When I stepped outside in my pajamas and bathrobe I could believe it.

On the other hand, the Weather Channel’s thermometer is not always the most accurate.

They are saying it was -6 in parts of northeast Texas so I believe it.

My power in the Houston area is still on, but I know lots of people who are without theirs.

Texas subsidized the stupid green energy crap to the tune of $19b so we can end up freezing in our own homes. Heads must roll.

I have family in Iowa. Their temps are doen as low as -26°f. They are under forced blackouts 4 hours per day. And yet, their home is surrounded with wind turbines as far as the eye can see.
