There was a viral Facebook post that appeared on February 2nd claiming student loan debt had been forgiven by President Biden. “My student loans are gone,” reads a Feb. 2nd Facebook post with hundreds of shares. “I love you Biden!”
The sentiment is probably appreciated but the news is premature. Biden has yet to issue an executive order on student loan debt. Many Democrats are urging the president to cancel $50,000 in debt with the stroke of a pen. But Biden says he would much rather involve Congress in the decision. And getting any kind of consensus on forgiving student loan debt is going to be very difficult.
Some student loan debtors have decided to have a “debt strike” and refuse to pay on their loans until Biden acts.
Fabares has now joined the Biden Jubilee 100, a group of 100 student loan borrowers who have stopped paying their debt. The Debt Collective, which calls itself “a union for debtors,” has organized the strike, hoping to pressure President Joe Biden to cancel the country’s entire outstanding student loan balance of $1.7 trillion.
“We’re going to win what we organize for,” said Thomas Gokey, co-founder of The Debt Collective.
The anticipation that Biden will act soon is driving the effort. Like the migrants lining up at the border ready and waiting for Biden’s amnesty, the student loan debtors are under the impression their loans will magically disappear once Biden takes action.

Who didn’t see this coming, raise your hand......................
To restore an old house that has good bones, you just need to get rid of the rot.
The Establishment on the other hand wants to raze our system to the ground so that it may be replaced with authoritarian communism.
LOL...Excellent!
You are assuming they have an education that makes them employable. Not much taxes paid while living free in daddy’s basement.
There’s no need to destroy the entire “free market” system though.
I don’t know the future, just saying this has happened before.
When I was in Mongolia after the demise of the USSR, I never saw such entrepreneurship! 80 years of communism hadn’t beat it out of them.
I believe the only way a tax refund can be garnished is if you owe the government money (back federal income taxes, back state income taxes, overpayment of state unemployment compensation, or defaulted on student loan) or you owe back child support or back spousal support.
There might be other things but those are the ones I know for sure.
You’re quite right; I did indeed assume that. LOL
Biden cannot do this, and Congress will not. Besides these are “students” with completely useless degrees.
Who hired the money?
This is stupid... I can’t imagine forgiveness being granted for people who have missed payments... but who knows anymore
When The Ho is appointed presimdint in a few weeks, we’ll have a dictaster...
The ultimate in white privilege/entitlement
The colleges and universities that reap the proceeds of these loans when they’re issued should have to cosign every one of them.
If the college/university coddles the student with fake grades, and it becomes apparent they’re just stringing the student along, they should become fully responsible for any loan amounts they accept after the unearned grades are awarded.
Listen up all you blue collar and low income chumps. You get to pay the student loans of spoiled brats who spent six years discovering themselves. I wish someone would pay for a six year vacation for me.
Where are the howls from the “poor and minorities hardest hit” people?
When the Feds got involved, the per credit price shot up because, hey, the debt was going to be backed by the government. So, the colleges began to charge more because they could, and the debt began to head into the stratosphere.
Now, graduates owe $1.7 Trillion.
When my son graduated with a Bachelors degree in Lesbian Dance Studies he immediately got a great job that along with living frugally allowed him to pay off his $30,000 in debt in one year.
Oh wait, it wasn’t Lesbian Dance Studies. It was Astronautical Engineering.
I paid mine, without question and immensefully grateful for the opportunities I would never have had. I can only look at those cheats with disdain.
Thanks; I suspect it was excess disability (but it must have been a lot).
