Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.”
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.
Cassidy is one of seven Republicans who was convinced by the House managers' arguments and voted to convict Trump in a 57-43 vote.
Cassidy was joined by fellow Republican colleagues Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.).
Cassidy’s decision was a surprise to some after he was seen on Friday with a statement that showed support for Trump’s acquittal, but his communications director stated that Cassidy had drafted two statements, one for and against Trump’s conviction.
Cassidy has previously said that that the House Managers had “done very well” with their arguments for Trump’s guilt.
However, the arguments fell short as conviction would have required 17 Republicans to side with the Democrats.
Since Trump was not convicted, he is allowed to run for a political office again. He has made clear he will stay involved in the political realm, but it is not clear what his future plans are with the Republican party.
He knows no one can touch his sorry ass til 2026 that’s why he can run his trap now
I remember when he got rona and I wished him well, BIG MISTAKE on my part
Trump had transgressed The Unwritten Law.
Yea and I have several in my church . .professed Christians who voted for the baby killer Biden. This guy needs some serious counseling . . .probably his family, too since he is the head of the household.
There is no recall allowed on US Senators.
“As to removal by recall, the United States Constitution does not provide for nor authorize the recall of United States officers such as Senators, Representatives, or the President or Vice President, and thus no Member of Congress has ever been recalled in the history of the United States. The recall of Members was considered during the time of the drafting of the federal Constitution in 1787, but no such provisions were included in the final version sent to the states for ratification, and the specific drafting and ratifying debates indicate an express understanding of the framers and ratifiers that no right or power to recall a Senator or Representative in Congress exists under the Constitution.”

Because he talked the talk, and we were trying to keep any republican in the senate.
I hope and pray a recall will be started, I’ll get in line and sign my name
The SOB just got re-elected! Time for the folks of Louisiana to recall this quisling!
Good idea.
He likes that DC Swamp so much but he'd better watch out down home for the roughly one million pairs of alligator eyes watching from the Louisiana swamp. He should stay on the good side of the people and wildlife of his state. Both matter.
This turd stinks to high heaven. I can smell his stench for miles.
GOP Sen. Cassidy: ‘I voted to convict Trump because I’VE BEEN INSIDE THE DC BELTWAY WAY TOO LONG’.
There, fixed it.
“...he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.””
Of what, Bill? Of the specific impeachment charges, or of something that you’re making up?
“Is Cassidy channeling his inner Huey Long?”
That statement reveals you know absolutely nothing whatsoever about Huey Long, who was murdered by the deep state. Huey Long would have chewed that bastard up and spit him out.
‘
How is it the Dems manage to Vote in blocs, at 100%.
One Party fights, and the other are Dem Wannabes.
Dem Jr.
There’s not a dimes difference between the Corpse Nancy Pelosi and Bill Cassidy of DC (fled Louisiana).
‘
When the Dirty Seven come up for reelection:
Richard Burr (NC) - 2022
Lisa Murkowski (AK) - 2022
Patrick Toomey (PA) - 2022
Mitt Romney (UT) - 2024
Bill Cassidy (LA) - 2026
Susan Collins (ME) - 2026
Ben Sasse (NW) - 2026
Yep Jane WE just put this RINO BASTARD back in office along with Graham!! WHEN are we EVER going to learn WHEN??
“”I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.”
Well, what else can the fool say?
I think Burr and Toomey are retiring.
“He’s a good father, husband and doctor...“
I have no doubt he’s a good person - I don’t know him but I have met plenty of morons that are good people.
The harder part to swallow is the idea that a complete moron can be a good doctor. But then again, all that takes is getting good enough grades.. I know morons that somehow knew how to memorize the right things and get straight As. I guess he could have gotten through medical school that way.
But I’m sorry - EVERYTHING I’ve heard come out of this guy’s mouth so far has been vacuously stupid.
First, he makes a statement that he voted that the impeachment was constitutional based on the fact that the House managers were more organized in their presentation. Just admitting that is stupid, much less actually doing it!
Then, he doubles down after the vote, saying the seriousness of the allegations are what proved Trump’s guilt. What? Really?
The guy is a moron. Sorry (not sorry).
7 more traitors.
17 traitors that we need to ensure never win election as a Republican again. 7 in the senate, 10 in the house.
No matter what, never vote for these people. In these 17 cases, if they win their primary, vote for their opponent. The only time I would ever vote for a Democrat or advocate for anyone to do so would be in these cases.
Don’t let them spread the damage. Don’t let them distract you by focusing on bad things other Republicans did too. Don’t let them intimidate you that we need them to win the congress or to save the court or anything else.
No. Keep the spotlight on them and then alone.
We must exile these 17 fools. We must or they will sabotage us internally.
