Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial looked on track to last longer than expected after the Senate voted on Saturday morning in favor of calling witnesses.
Witnesses hadn’t been expected in the proceedings, but the lead House manager, Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, said on Saturday morning that his team wanted to call Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington state after she released a statement late Friday that said Trump on Jan. 6 resisted telling his supporters to stop storming the Capitol.
Those five GOP senators included four known for criticizing Trump — Maine’s Susan Collins, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski, Utah’s Mitt Romney and Nebraska’s Ben Sasse. South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, also voted for calling witnesses, after tweeting on Saturday morning that, “If you want a delay, it will be a long one with many, many witnesses.”

You’re right. But every Election Day going forward, however many are driven to our side, a few more votes will be “counted” on their side.
If they do this Trump can take it to the SCOTUS and have the whole damn thing deemed FAKE just as it should be!!!

Unfortunately, that is not true. They have the votes to deny Trump any witnesses. That’s where this is headed now that Dems control the Senate: a Senate version of the one-sided House kangaroo court we already saw.
In the House, the Trump Lawyers were allowed zero due process - and now the Senate will do the same...
President Trump may not be convicted of the articles of impeachment, but that is not what they are after. This is a show trial to convince the MAGA movement that Trump was evil after all - that he had us all brainwashed.
This is a process of deprogramming the cult of Trump - they will stretch it out over weeks until polls show that we are “convinced”.
I remember when they did that to the extremely popular Richard Nixon, who had just been re-elected in the second biggest landslide in modern history.
Polls showed Nixon’s popularity holding strong - none of his supporters believed anything he did justified impeaching him... then after weeks and weeks of NYT headlines like “NIXON LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE” ... things began to change..
I remember my own mother, a staunch Nixon supporter, one day seeing that headline and tearfully saying “so it’s true - he lied to me.” I was only 21 and it was only 1974, but I already knew there was something very wrong with “the news”. I tried to pull my mother back from the breach.
But my mother just had too much trust in Walter Cronkite, etc.. she couldn’t believe that many newspapers and that many anchors could be wrong, or would conspire for political purposes. She was extremely smart, but she was also a humble woman who grew up respecting her parents, her teachers, the ministers at our church, and other “authority” figures - including people like Walter Cronkite. If someone like him was convinced, I guess she figured it must be she who was wrong.
There are still tons of people like my late mother, who are just too humble to think they could be right and all those voices wrong. That’s how propaganda works. It wears us down. It takes advantage of our humility, our decency and our respect for authority. It turns our own good character against us.
These disgusting liars won’t quit until Trump’s good name and his immense popularity has been completely destroyed.
