A big car is like life insurance, except that when you crash your car, it doesn’t pay out to your heirs but instead likely saves your life.

Funny that the government mandates seat belts and helmets - and small cars (at the manufacturer level).

Nah, it’s not simply mandating. Women, many women, consider a car as a fashion accessory... they look at the smaller car and think “it’s cute” and tend to buy them, even when they have the means to buy a larger vehicle.

Even without mandates this would be happening... and car makers know it. They know if they can get a women to think a small car is “cute” they will sell better.

Call me sexist all you want, that’s reality.

I have 2 cars. 1 is a SUV, other is a small chevy Spark. Driving the Spark, drivers cut me off often, seldom in the SUV.

Yes, CAFE kills. The number one cause of death in automobile accidents is collision with an immovable object ie trees, ditches, bridge abutments, etc.

I drive a large diesel truck when I need a truck. I drive a small commuter car when all I need is a commuter car. I ride my motorcycle when my soul needs to recharge... (and basically any time I can get away with it)

I can see the nanny state leftists desire for control coming... They'll want to limit or tax the use of big bad trucks and SUVs - for the environment and as a women's health issue. No. For two very good reasons. One, sometimes you need a large vehicle. Two, eff you nanny state, who are you to tell me what I can or cannot drive? What happened to freedom, liberty, and personal choice?

What I now understand.

Men and women crash minivans and SUVs at the same rate.
Women crash cars 10% more than men.
Women crash trucks at a lower rate than men.

Conclusion

Everyone should drive a truck.

People need to buy a safe car. Go to the IIHS site before buying any vehicle.

It tells you how you will be maimed or killed when that vehicle is in an accident.

For years smaller cars have been killing men and women. Now that someone says the deaths are not “equal,” they go into a panic over the news.

Here’s a hint. Women are on average smaller than men, on average. So naturally women choose smaller cars.

What next? legislation to kill as many men as needed to achieve “equality” in the deaths?

On the one hand, single women, even obese ones, cram themselves into tiny cars, probably for appearance’s sake. OTOH, married women are often seen driving massive “Mommy Boat” SUVs with their kids. Statistically, though, this makes a lot of sense.
