The Senate voted Tuesday to move ahead with the unprecedented impeachment trial of former President Trump after listening to hours of arguments on whether it is constitutional to try a president who is already out of office.
The vote was 56-44.
Trump's legal team said the trial is unconstitutional because he's no longer in office and can't face removal, which is the standard judgment of an impeachment conviction.

“..next the hill will make a constitutional law to REMOVE ALL our beautiful D.C. Monuments...”
Right. They are incrementalists. First it was the monuments to Southern patriots. Then it was the founding fathers. Then it was the battlefield memorials. Then it was the Vietnam Wall. Then it was the Iwo Jima Memorial. Then it was the Washington Monument and finally Arlington National Cemetary and Tomb if the Unknown Soldier. The filthy bastards are after it all.
> Impeachment exists exclusively for removal from office. Criminal conduct, if it occurs, can be prosecuted whether or not it occurs in January.
The president can be impeached for offenses that are not necessarily criminal in nature, so criminal courts are not equipped to deal with the full range of shenanigans that the president might get up to in the waning days of his presidency. Also, criminal courts cannot bar a person from holding federal office in the future.
Why? Let it go to vote right now!
“Ben Sasse surprises me. When I have heard him speak, he’s always come across as Constitutionally minded.”
Sasse has a pathological hatred for Donald Trump.
The six (RINO) senators are:
Bill Cassidy
Susan Collins
Lisa Murkowski
Mitt Romney
Ben Sasse
Pat Toomey
ie: The Usual Suspects!
“Chuckie will need six more turds to fill the bowl and convict.”
Eleven more.
Individuals drunk on their power. The LAW is what they say it is. Not the content of some moldy old document in an obscure language.
It’s either constitutional or it’s not. Since when do partisan votes decide.
Send in the troops. Lock them all up and hold military trials. Executive, legislative, judicial the whole nation wide, trial by the federal code, sort it out. Then also hold evidentiary hearing nation wide to sort out the last election and set things right. Those not in on direct illegality shall need go also for tacit complicity.
Save our country we are not a socialist country and never will be.
Fair trials not kangaroo courts.
Cassidy was forced to capitulate. Either he or his family or both were threatened by an unknown party who must have President Trump impeached to continue with there objective of control of the country. They have Biden, DOJ, FBI and the Democratic party but must stop Trump and impeachment is the cleanest way to do it.
middle school kid knows more about the Constitution ...
Not any more if the young Soc St teachers I worked with 10 years ago are now the majority in schools.
Well I agree, but they won't let that happen. They want to air this mock trial that has all the appearance of due process with none of the protections, and no common sense.
Anyone who has been even somewhat informed isn’t surprised by this. They are corrupt and have skeletons in their closets.
Nancy hopes Trump supporters will cause trouble so they can declare Marshall Law
The 6 traitorous RINOs on list....
Didn’t I see the same ones on another list? Oh,yeah, the one of sneaky, cowardly snakes in the grass who put America last.
I knew they looked familiar.
Do we realize that there is no such corresponding list of “moderate” turncoat Dems? Maybe one Manchin entry sometimes.
But no dissenters, mavericks, wild cards and rogues for the Dems. All one mass group voting as a bloc.
I am beyond disgusted in the Supreme Court of the United States of America. As THE DECIDER of what is Constitutional and what is not, how does the USSC choose to abstain? Besides the statement from “Chief Justice” Roberts that he will not participate, there has been no other statement. Really??!!
Kangaroo court.
The SUPREME COURT decides if something is Constitutional, not (M)itt Romney, former Republican. It’s been at least 8 years since he voted for a Republican candidate for president, if not 12 or 16 or more.
Voting that it is constitutional does not make it so.
