As MarMema’s link in post #54 highlights, we should see the vaccination program effects first in Israel, which has been leading the World.

“Netanyahu has said that 95% of COVID-19 deaths in Israel - the total tally was 4,975 as of Thursday - have been among the over-60s.

According to the Health Ministry, 84% of the over 60s have now received the vaccine, made by Pfizer Inc. It did not immediately provide a more detailed breakdown of how many of these people had received both vaccine doses and when.”

“Over the last 16 days, among those over age 60, there has been a reduction of 26% in hospitalisation for serious (complications) and an around 45% reduction in confirmed cases. This is a direct outcome of the vaccines,” he said.

In a few more weeks, as they wrap up the second shots for the over 60 year olds, the pipeline into the hospital should slow to a trickle.

We should be 2-4 months behind them - but the initial effects from getting the most vulnerable elderly first (LTC residents and over 75’s) should become apparent sooner.

I’m one who will not be getting this vaccine-or any other, for that matter-reason being that I’m one of those people who has terrible reactions to flu vaccines-starting with the 1st one when I was about 9-the military docs told my mom a couple of years later she probably should not get me, my sibling or herself any flu vaccine again-we all reacted badly every time-and to be careful of other vaccines, always.

After my cub was born and I went back to work I tried getting the flu shots again, not wanting to bring something to her-but I was even sicker than I’d been from the flu shot than before, so I quit that-years later, MrT5 insisted we should both get flu shots-the same crap happened again-I was deathly ill-he was not affected at all-so the military docs told me I probably should not do that again-and I haven’t-haven’t been seriously ill with anything, either-a couple of docs put forth the theory that because I’ve never indulged in processed, inorganic food or taken any prescription drugs in my life-and my immune system is very strong-I keep it that way-that immune system reacts to anything unnatural as a threat-even a vaccine-and goes on red alert-so I’m better relying on my own immunity and healthy lifestyle-anything else is dangerous to me, where it wouldn’t be to many others...

If I were able to get vaccines without risking a serious problem, I would still probably hold out on this Wuhan vax for awhile-at least long enough to see if anything happens to those vaccinated down the road a few months-but for those that are pretty sure they are okay to get it, by all means do so-one size does not fit all-what could kill me might save another’s life...

So I haven’t had any shingles, pneumonia vax either-haven’t had the sickness, either

My wife and I told our HMO, that we would wait on our second dose to allow 2 other people to get their first shot.

Apparently, that would spoil the math re who gets the shots and when.

I suspect that many of the provax people are
1-so afraid of the virus that they’re willing to risk it
2-once they’ve taken it are still in fear of the side effects

With those two combined, they’ve cornered themselves.
They must defend the vax, because it validates one, or both of their fears.

Everyone’s adjustment reaction is different and on different timelines.

I’m healthy and not in fear
Many are not healthy, have fear.

I don’t judge them, but won’t be judged BY THEM.

My second shingles shot was like getting hit by a baseball bat in the arm and the kidney on that side.

The RN warned my wife and I to not go get the 2nd shingles shot at the same time.

You have to weight the fatalities from the present vaccines against the fatalities that would occur if we don’t win the race against the UK mutation.

Possibly because the 20 million “lost” doses have gone into the arms of friends and family of anyone who could grab them. The Paper of Record FINALLY dealt with that probability today.

(I read that rag because you get more facts than elsewhere, so for the present I am tolerating articles about how white Protestants are the real terrorists.)

I fall into the other camp. I’m 64 and healthy, but I judge the risks of getting sick as higher than the risk of the vaccine.
Any rational person should expect the risk of the vaccine as being greater than zero. How much greater? No idea.
On the other hand my personal risk of getting sick enough to need to go to the hospital if infected has been calculated as 8%. Is that accurate? No idea.
At my age the risk of death (if infected) seems to be somewhere around 1-2%. Am I certain about that? No.
If I end up with an extra nose growing out of my right arm I’ll try to get back to everybody to tell them just how wrong I was.
