DEFENSE SECRETARY LLYOD Austin on Wednesday ordered a military-wide "stand down" to address the kind of extremism within the ranks that was thrust into the public view on Jan. 6 when supporters of President Donald Trump – including some active-duty war veterans – forcefully stormed the U.S. Capitol.
The dearth of details about the stand-down highlights the apparent lack of understanding overall on the issue of extremism among military leaders. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby on Wednesday afternoon told reporters that commanders would have 60 days to schedule events for "needed discussions" about extremism.

BTW, "extremists" translates as Trump supporters/Deplorables/patriots, of course.
They want to identify, disarm, and remove any patriots from the military before those patriots can resist the tyranny being forced on the country.

I mostly blame the media for effectively forcing people to seek out alternate, and frequently lunatic news sources that embrace conspiracies. When you know the media is outright lying you look elsewhere hoping to find truth, and there will always be people like Alex Jones, Jim Hoft, “Sundance”, and worse ready to fill in the blanks with nutcase conspiracies. The media made idiocy like “qanon” possible.
Even worse, destroying the military’s trust in media and government erodes their trust in military leadership. Some will see an attack on extremism and conspiracy theories as proof that their leader is part of the conspiracy.
Lloyd Austin terminated 200+ Pentagon employees yesterday and said 400 more will be terminated.These were Trump folks or known conservatives.
Trump should have terminated 600 obama pentagon employees when he got in and he never did. No wonder there was leaks everywhere.

First action after a coup is remove any and all existing internal threats that might be able to take action by force of arms.
If there are pockets of resistance or segments of the military who are willing to take action to oppose to this coup, we should see them take action shortly. The lockdown forces their hand.
