A frat party at Santa Clara University attracted hordes of unmasked, un-distanced college students in parkas and winter garb, prompting school officials to create harsher mandates for those unwilling to abide by county health regulations.
At least 75 people were in attendance at the Jan. 23 daytime function, reported the school's student newspaper The Santa Clara, which first broke the news.
The event was meant to attract prospective "rushees" to California Phi, a fraternity unaffiliated with the university, the paper reported. If not, a Cal Phi leader told the paper, the fraternity could get shuttered. (The party was themed "Aspen in the '80s.")
Neither police nor other school authorities shut the event down — and despite the event taking place last week, it is unclear what repercussions students who attended have faced.
Jeanne Rosenberger, the vice provost for student life at Santa Clara, said in an email to students Wednesday that those "found to be responsible for hosting events on or off campus, participating in social gatherings ... or failing to abide by recommended isolation and quarantine recommendations" will be fined $500 and suspended.

Two years ago, who would have ever thought they would read a headline like that about America?
I wonder if they really will be, or is this a bunch of bull?
75 people is now officially a “horde”.
This might be why basketball at all of the West Coast Conference D1 schools—USF, Santa Clara, St. Mary’s—are on a two week shutdown.
Punishment, maybe?
THEY MUST BE PUNISHED!!!!
Unless they are democrats
I would think the harms done to American business & society and associated freedoms is punishment enough.

How about Governor Fidel Che Gruesome in action behind closed doors?
I wouldn’t punish ‘em either.
Of course, ifn I were dictator, all the businesses would be open and masks would be optional.
This one was...40 years ago.
Wow. How would the school know which students attended? What business is it of the school’s what students do when not on campus?
When I was at college years ago the school had no inkling what I did off campus. I went to class or library & went home. Went to many parties - off campus.
Replace “frat” with “bug-chaser” and “college student”
with “gay men”, see what happens
Sad, isn’t it? Soviet Style liberalism.
It’s not over until we say it’s over!
Schools are busybodies now. Even CLOSED colleges in CA require students living in the college town to get tested weekly. Even WITHOUT opening the campus to them, at all.
