Strange Full-Screen Pop Ups when Trying to Access FreeRepublic

When I try to access FreeRepublic directly, I am getting strange full-screen pop-ups.

Here's what they say:

"Before you continue to FreeRepublic.

By clicking the button below you'll go through a standard security check, after which you will be redirected to Chrome store and will be given the option to install a Web Safety extension. This chrome extension will offer you a safe web search experience by changing your default search provider.

Compatible with your browser.

Continue"

Is anyone else getting these strange messages?

I suspect it is some type of advertisement, but who knows what they are trying to do?

I didn't click on the link, but it is nonetheless very annoying and prevents me from getting to FR directly.

I’m guessing this is on a mobile phone? If it is, I use Brave browser on my phone - no problems & I also don’t have to use an ad blocker.

Sounds like you have local malware. Basically it means the problem is on your computer. Download malwarebytes or some other malware removal tool that’s well known and get rid of it.

Oh and switch to DuckDuckGo or brave for a browser

Seems to be due to some browser extension redirecting you to another page. Check your browser extensions for anything that shouldn’t be there.
