Nothing says “unity” like an impeachment trial of a guy who’s already out of office.
Supposedly, but only in a judicial proceeding. Impeachment is a political proceeding and rules of evidence, etc., don't apply. The Senate makes the rules for how it is conducted. Impeachments are meant to be "show trials".
It will cause the 75 million Trump base to grow by many millions and make it more possible to take over the country club GOPe or start a New Party.
The Dems are dead wrong about being able to banish Trump. He and/or his surrogates are here for the long haul. The fake imnpeachment will not work, it' will grow Trump support so it is even more YUGE!

You might be right, but the fact is that Trump DID NOT say to go storm the capital. He DID say the election was a fraud.
I don’t see how the democrats can separate the allegations from what Trump said and most of them are on record stating his false claims of election fraud are what triggered the incident.
The whole thing is a big pit of mud, but I would prefer they go through with it at this point because there are many republicrats with splinters in their butt right now and 2022 is quickly approaching.
The first months of the Biden presidency and democrat congress are shaping up to be a trainwreck. If we can watch the GOPe crash too I would welcome it.

Chief Justice Roberts already said he is not interested in presiding over another impeachment. And doesn’t the constitution say it must be a Chief Justice?

It is alarming that so many of them thought, even for a brief moment, that their political lives were going to return to normal, that we would come to our senses after a temporary four-year derangement, that we would welcome a Nimrata-Mario ticket in 2024.
Obviously, they have heard from us for the past 18 days, and they are starting to chicken out of convicting Trump, which they somehow believed we would allow.

That (the prospect of a Patriot Party) is what has grabbed the GOP pukes’ attention.
The Trump coalition is strong enough to be king makers in any state where voter fraud doesn’t determine results.
The actual vote totals he received totally scares them breathless.
He actually broke their cheating machines, and they had to stop the count, and reprogram them with more gain, which still was not enough, so they had to manufacture fake ballots to count multiple times, to barely eke out a win.
I think that they know they cannot pull off this level of cheat the next time.
The cheat machines were supposed to influence close elections, like they have been doing in "blue" states for years.
