Incoming Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has suggested taxing Americans for the number of miles they drive, a policy he endorsed as a Democratic presidential candidate.
The Biden Administration is actively searching for ways to fund its ambitious $1 trillion infrastructure plan.
Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., acknowledged "privacy concerns" related to implementing a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) system but said it should be considered as a potential replacement for the gas tax.

When you get State inspections annually they log the mileage.
Here come the taxes! Democrats are the party of taxes. If they could get away with it, they would just keep raising them until you had almost nothing left to live on. Are we going to let this clown get away with it? Or are we going to resist?
They won't do that because they have families and need their income. However, a shut down for a week or even a few days would make a huge point.
I learned about two weeks after I got my license how to unplug the odometer.
How about no. No tax. Thank you.
Of course now it’s computed from your output speed sensor on the electronic transmission, so after you “disco” don’t expect to get out of first gear.
What did you expect of a criminal who fills his cabinet with freaks and perverts, by a quota system to make sure every category of freak and pervert is represented? I hope you didn’t expect good sense, good ideas or honesty. The only expertise Butty Boy has with transportation is his “husband’s” Grand Central Tunnel. Don’t expect anything normal or making sense from him.
From the taxpaying private sector middle class to the elites and those who live off the government, whether through employment, contracts or welfare.
Right. California has has bills introduced along the same lines, but they can't figure out how to prove mileage. They know they can't recall every vehicle to put in electronic systems. So how would Butthead make that possible?
Would that be the small businesses that were wrecked over the past several months or what few are left teetering on the edge. They’ll be wrecked soon enough by this bunch given their proclivities for economic suicide.
I still maintain truckers, especially independents, can throw a wrench into their monkey works by being selective with whom they haul for. Service the patriots and let the rest enjoy the suck.
Correct. The odometer on my 96 PU only registers 1 mile for every 10 driven for some reason. Course having a V-10 in it sucks a lot of gas.
“Incoming Transportation Secretary wants to implement a mileage tax..”
Eat it Pete...oh wait!
I was taking with a politician one time that was complaining they needed to raise the road tax cause there were twice as many cars on the road doing damage to the road.
I told him if there were twice as many cars on the road aren’t they collecting twice as much gas tax now? No answer.
Sure, the plan is to tightly restrict travel by those who are not in the transportation or shipping business..
Perhaps even check points on state borders.. Maybe part of the plan is to gain control of the narcotics trade. Narcotics is, after all, the life's blood of the democratic party.. It's all about money and control... :(
It’d only take a few days for everything to run out.
Still have my first 4 wheeled vehicle - 1984 Bronco II. Needs some work, but it runs.
“How do they propose to measure mileage use per year?”
Don’t we need a way tax the use of electric vehicles on our public roads?
No such thing in Michigan. I suppose we’ll have to provide the current mileage when we renew our plates. Then they record the mileage when you re-title the vehicle after a sale.
Biden’s Banana Republic strikes again,
Can I say "ARMY!"
