NRSC chair says he'll support incumbents over primary challengers
CBS NEWS ^ | jan 21 2021 | Adam Brewster

Florida Senator Rick Scott, the new chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said on Thursday that he'd support incumbent Senators if they face primaries, and that's the case even if fellow Florida Senator Marco Rubio were to face a primary challenge from Ivanka Trump.

There have been rumors that former President Trump's daughter might challenge Rubio in his bid for reelection in 2022. Mr. Trump has also said that he wants to to see South Dakota Senator John Thune, the number two Republican in the Senate, challenged in a primary.

"I'm supporting incumbents," Scott told reports when pressed on the issue multiple times. He also said that "nobody has talked to me" about the possibility of Ivanka Trump running a primary challenge against Rubio.

Scott said that he hasn't spoken with President Trump since he left office. He also defended his vote two weeks ago to object to counting the Electoral College votes in Pennsylvania.

As NRSC Chair, Scott is responsible for leading the GOP's effort to recapture the Senate. That would include keeping seats in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in the hands of Republicans. Republicans won't have incumbent candidates running in North Carolina or Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson hasn't said if he'll seek re-election. Republicans will also be targeting currently held Democratic seats in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and New Hampshire.

Scott said he wants the election to "be about issues" and wants to see people focus on the "difference between Republicans and Democrats." He said it would be up to each Republican senator, including those up for reelection, to decide whether to vote to convict former President Trump. Republicans who vote to convict Mr. Trump could end up facing primary challengers backed by the former president.

Any Republican that votes to impeach President Trump will never, ever get a dollar or a vote from me. In fact, I’d vote for the Democrat against them if they survived the primary even if they agreed with me on every other issue to try and cause them maximum damage. Cross this line traitor rinos and prepare for a lifetime of payback and I damn sure know I’m not alone in this sentiment.

in red states we need our own separate maga money and candidates. exactly one maga candidate in gop primary. can hijack each office that way from gop party chairman on up. can run an independent if it’s expedient, or circumstances require (non partisan office, etc).

if the incumbent gets through. boycott and/or run independent maga against them. simple as that. but you have to be a disciplined maga voter. vote as the maga party directs.

Over 95% of these guys circle the wagon and back each other in primary fights. They prefer to keep it a closed club. And by the way, new ideas about how things should work are not welcome.

Creepy looking Rick Scott ought to be the first head to roll. President Trump made the Republican Party look good then they being the RINO’s they are stabbed him in the back.....I hope in the future President Trump will take that party completely away from them and call it the MAGA Republican Party! Saw this morn on WarRoom where it’s suggested President Trump run for the House in 2022, win then become Speaker and impeach Tamale Garish.....gotta say that scenario made my heart flutter......LOL

Rick Scott is schizo. He’s gone from being one of seven Senate Republicans voting to deny certification of the stolen election to now jumping feet first into the RINO NRSC. IF he wants Trump voters support he should be staying as far away from that corruption as possible.

I have some experience in state government, and what Senator Scott describes is pretty typical of how those fund raising arms within the party operate. The State GOPs have tended to remain neutral until the conclusion f the Primary, but the group that raises money for re-elections tend to support the incumbents. This doesn’t surprise me. And it’s why I donate to the candidate directly rather than give to these Money Machines.
