A last-ditch effort to persuade President Donald Trump to issue a pre-emptive pardon to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is reportedly being blocked by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, according to reports.
A high-level source in the Trump administration reported to Breitbart News that while the President is sympathetic to pardoning Assange, Cipollone is not — and the continued opposition of the White House counsel is making a pardon increasingly unlikely.
Trump could still overrule Cipollone if he wished – he has the legal authority to do so – but it appears that the President continues to heed the latter’s advice.
In a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, the establishment newspaper praised Cipollone for reining in President Trump in the closing days of his administration, “when the easier route would be to resign to outside applause.”
Condemning President Trump’s recent words and behavior, the Journal praised officials like Cipollone for putting the brakes on the President.
“Every official has to search his conscience amid Mr. Trump’s actions, and outside moral judgment is easy and often wrong. Many good people are trying to prevent more bad decisions,” said the Journal.
Outside of the administration, high-profile conservatives and Republicans have urged President Trump to pardon Julian Assange.
These voices include Tucker Carlson, who once again urged the President to trust his instincts in a segment that aired yesterday.
Assange’s primary crime, said Carlson, was “humiliating the powerful.”

Cipollone is the one who blocked Sidney Powell from seeing Trump in the White House after the steal last month. He’s been a thorn in his side and probably part of the steal.
I think Trump is President.
Did I miss something?
If true then it’s a sure thing he’s blocking Bannon.
Is this the cippolone who’s friends with laura Ingraham?
How about a blanket pardon for set person being audited by the IRS?
I think Trump is President.
Did I miss something?
Fire this Cellophane guy !
Yes, it is the friend of Ingraham.
Agree 100%. Both Assange and Snowden pardons are no-brainers. Kick the elites on the way out.
Trump should have announced it during his farewell speech.
Kinda hard to bottle up that.
What has Trump got to lose?
Cipollone could say :A. “I Quit!!”
or B. “I’ll write a BOOK!” and neither would matter at this point.
Trump is pulling his punches on his way out of the WH. Wray and Haspel never got fired. Still no declassified docs. It’s just as likely Trump doesn’t want to pull the trigger here and is fobbing this off on the WH lawyer.
Pat Cipollone is the same piece of smoldering dung that blocked Flynn and others out of the Whitehouse in mid-December when it could of really mattered.
Trump did dropped some new declassifications tonight, apparently Wray didn’t want them released
Yeah. Everybody’s part of the steal. /s 🤦
“Sources say”
Why do you think McConnell is saying he is undecided on his impeachment vote? The word got to Trump that Republicans will gladly vote to convict and embarrass him if he doesn’t toe the line.
That means keep his yap shut and don’t pardon himself, his family, Assange, Snowden or whoever else McConnell and the establishment don’t like or else.
They are effectively blackmailing POTUS. Although, I agree self-pardon is stupid and is just an open invitation for the Biden administration to charge him with all sorts of crimes so they have standing in the Supreme Court. It would also make him look guilty.
If he wanted a pardon, he should have resigned and let Pence do it but Trump screwed that up by not calling Pence on the day of the riot to check in on him. He is all butt hurt. Regardless, pardons won’t do anything for state charges in New York or Georgia as it only involves federal charges.
I’ve long suspected Biden’s DOJ will leave Trump alone so he can keep his hands clean and pretend to “unify” the country while State of New York prosecutes Trump and gives democrats their prison wet dreams.
Powell, Flynn and Wood have pretty much turned out to be three raving lunatics through the whole post-election fiasco.
