Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico only needs 50 votes
The Week ^ | Jon Walker

Many journalists and political commentators have been pessimistic about the possibility of statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This seems to be primarily because, despite the recent Democratic victories in Georgia, moderate senators like Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), Diane Feinstein (D-Calif), and Angus King (I-Maine) continue to support the legislative filibuster. It is impossible to imagine Republican senators voting to give Democratic-leaning areas full representation, so the issue must be dead on arrival in the upper chamber. But in a recent CNN interview, Manchin himself provided evidence for why this thinking is all wrong......."

Biden should choose a pirate flag with a red skull.

But I hope its even uglier.

Nah, they make DC a State, Congress becomes the state legislature, the president becomes the governor, they stay in their pig pen and leave the rest of us alone. DC is a Square id would be relatively easy to put a barb wire fence and a cattle grade electric fence up

For a number of reasons, it may be time to relocate the US Capitol and other constitutional functions out of what is known as Washington DC.

Just curious, where would you move them?

Relocate the federal government to Guam. Obviously that will help to reduce sessions. I propose a long session of 2 months during odd years and a short session of 1 month during even years. Most Representatives and Senators will work from their offices in their home districts and Congress will be closed most of the time, limiting the damage.

Sadly the laws do matter— when the Left wants them to.

We would be better off in an anarchy than under that borking dictator.

For what it’s worth you can add super RINO Hogan from Maryland to your list. Not that he would ever do anything honorable to the Republican cause.

I would think that something as transformative as adding states would require a two-thirds vote. But that would be too commonsensical.

I would also think it should be, but I don't think it is.

As long as the 17th Amendment remains in place, the Senate will be nothing but a collection of spokesmodels for the billionaire caste, anyway. Go ahead and add a four, eight, or a hundred more big egos - who cares.

The only path is for the shamed legislatures to ban Dominion machines in every red state and thereby facilitate the taking the House away from progressives permanently.

I like the idea of congress critters living with their constituents. And if they work for China then the Chinese can have them.

And Gaum has an excellent moat to protect them from cooking fires.

It's been said that the architecture of Washington DC was designed based on military principals.

I would think any relocation and/or placement decisions should follow similar architectural considerations.

I wouldn't claim to have all the answers on the subject.

Needs 67 votes, plus 3/4ths of the state legislatures.

Where'd you get that? I don't see it. I think it probably SHOULD BE, but I don't think that is so currently.

#9: It would cause an interesting Constitutional question, wouldn't it?

Yes. Sort of like a usurper born in Kenya, or a vice-president born to non-Americans, and raised in Canada.

It would be hard for people to get too comfortable in Guam because it is so far away and isolated. It would also encourage people to retire at a younger age.

Best idea except there’s one “flaw.” The Dems will never go for it because the gaining VA/MD congressional districts are already blue so it doesn’t help the dems one bit politically and to them, that’s all that matters. Screw the people. More new dem senators and reps is the dems’ only goal.

Correct—and Puerto Rico independence terrorists are still out there.

If Congress wants to take them on, their call!

Fortunately, DC is very likely prohibited by the Constitution from being a state.
