Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said that he no longer considers himself a Republican in the wake of the riot that broke out at the Capitol building last week.
Asked by CNN's Fareed Zakaria whether he believes "fellow Republicans" who have not criticized President Trump "encouraged, at least, this wildness to grow and grow," Powell responded that "They did, and that's why I can no longer call myself a Republican."
"I'm not a fellow of anything right now. I'm just a citizen who has voted Republican, voted Democrat throughout my entire career, and right now I'm just watching my country and not concerned with parties," Powell said.

More to the point, nobody has called Colin Powell relevant over a decade so I am not sure anyone actually cares who or what Colin Powell calls himself.
Powell's entire career was based based on being a Bush Family designated African American and his job performance in the positions the Bushes was not exceptionally impressive.
Unlike others, he never went on to distinguish himself in the private sector where performance and talent are more important than being the “historic first African American” at what ever position the Bush family wanted to make a historic appointment.
Colin Powell made a career out of being Colin Powell and for the most part, the people who gave him positions both in and out of government eventually discovered that was his primary skill set. He had an impressive reputation but for the most part, he never lived up to a reputation that was mostly hype.
That said, he was in no way an incompetent or a buffoon. He was more like a solid but undistinguished, fence sitting yes man who had difficulty making hard decisions on critical, major world issues .
Sad, but true.
