Images of a mob of Donald Trump supporters surging past overwhelmed police to storm the US Capitol have shocked the world. Many have also asked why they bare such a stark contrast to the heavy police presence and violent tactics deployed when Black Lives Matter protesters took to the streets of Washington DC last year.
"This is a complete disgrace. Over the summer we saw federal law enforcement use tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets on Black Lives Matter protesters without provocation. Where are the riot squads now? Are they standing down as white supremacists attempt a coup?" asked DC Council member Janeese Lewis George on Twitter.
In June last year, peaceful demonstrators protesting after the death of George Floyd were removed with teargas and rubber bullets so that Donald Trump could pose for a photo op in front of a church, while the National Guard was called in to protect the capital's monuments.
Between May 30 and June 2, 2020, 427 were arrested during the DC protests, including 24 juveniles.
The Black Lives Matter Global Network labelled the police response on Wednesday a case of "hypocrisy".
"When Black people protest for our lives, we are all too often met by National Guard troops or police equipped with assault rifles, shields, tear gas and battle helmets. Make no mistake, if the protesters were Black, we would have been tear gassed, battered, and perhaps shot."

Do they really want to compare? One of the protestors who was unarmed and surrounded by armed police officers was shot and killed. Yet this group of protesters did not turn on the police and burn the Capitol down to avenge her life! How many charred cities are there from the BLM movement over perceived police brutality?

Everybody expounding the premise in this or similar articles is either being disingenuous or is completely stupid. Law enforcement deployed a large police presence all dressed out in riot gear for blm/antifa because they expected violence, burning, looting and general mayhem. Law enforcement did not expect that from a crowd of Trump supporters. I think it caught them off guard and surprised them.
Right now half the country is very angry, almost angry enough for a lot of us to be pushed into a mob mentality. If that were to happen law enforcement would be really surprised. It could get a modern civil war going in earnest. A modern civil war won’t be armies in the field. It would be marked by: politically motivated murders, assassinations, arson, bombings, violence and then retaliation. It would be ugly, nobody would be safe.
I suspect it’s more like BLM are criminals and the Right is the part of law and order.
Watching it over and over a few times Ive drawn the conclusion this shooting was deliberate.The shooter difnt shust fire off the gun he waited for a specific target. This is only my opinion.
