Shellshocked GOP ponders future with Trump
The Hill ^ | January 07 2021 | JONATHAN EASLEY,BRETT SAMUELS AND MORGAN CHALFANT

Shellshocked Republicans on Thursday said President Trump’s grip on the party is significantly weaker after he incited a mob to attack the Capitol, but some questioned whether their party would be free of his hold anytime soon.

The challenges to Trump are clearly mounting. There is chatter his Cabinet could invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him, an idea favored by at least one GOP lawmaker. Tensions between Trump and his long loyal vice president are clear, and there is evident anger in the Senate GOP with the president.

National Republicans interviewed by The Hill said Trump may have permanently alienated millions of center-right voters who were disgusted by Wednesday’s ugly scene.

GOP is dead.

“National Republicans” are projecting. They know they’ve actually alienated us.

74 million patriots still despise the incompetent shills running to take space in the power vacuum and prove their relevance .

They must be smelling and getting off on their own horseshit.

The Stupid Party is, officially, dead. This is, actually, good news, in many ways.

They won’t be able to walk the streets without getting booed and shamed.

The only ‘shell-shocked’ I see anywhere are in the DC bubble where they are expected to act shell-shocked or be destroyed politically.

The rest of the folks I see, while ready to condemn those who damaged things, are just as ticked off as before - even moreso.

First that the demonstration was used to guilt-shame republican congresscritters into giving up the debate, second, that the media is trying to blame Trump for the actions of a few, third, that the House is back to impeach, impeach, impeach to try to prevent Trump from running for office again, and fourth, by trying to guilt-shame-by-association paint all white folks as racist if they don’t parrot the liberal mindthink while pretending no minorities are in the Republican party. (or maybe that’s to guilt-shame the minorities into rejecting the Rep party??). And fifth, because the Dem Party has shown again just how low class, vendictive, and dispicable an opportunist they truly are as a breed. Hyenas.

As I see it, the GOP political class is absolutely staggered by Trump’s appeal to American voters, and his ability to get tens of thousands of people — or more — to show up anywhere in the U.S. just by telling them to come.

And his appeal cuts across racial, demographic and socioeconomic lines like no other Republican in anyone’s lifetime.

It was great while it lasted. You’ll never see another political/cultural figure like him, folks.

It was said, on this site I think, that “before we can defeat the Socialists we must first destroy the GOP”.

That was my understanding of the early Tea Party.

Nothing has happened that changes my mind on this matter.

There is no leader for the MAGA movement once Trump exits. Vacuums are not good.

Through my own devastation, I recognize what you say to be true. And I’ve felt that way since Jan. 6. It’s almost a relief to not have them slung around our necks, weighing us down. For so long, we’ve felt as if we had to vote for them because, with few exceptions, they were less awful than the alternative. And we were enraged and disgusted when they betrayed us time after time, but we were not surprised.

And so, I don’t know why I feel so desolate now. I know I ought to feel comfort, and I hope that it will set in sometime soon, but right now, I’m just devastated. I’m not one to speak hyperbolically; I just don’t know any other word to describe the depth of my sorrow at what has happened to our country.

The only reason we have two parties is to give voters the illusion of choice.

Anyone who thinks we have a two party system us delusional.

There is only one party: Deep State.

And Trump is the only threat to it.

Wishful thinking on the part of RINO’s. Nothing about this article surprises. BTW Trump never had a grip on the Republican Party in the way described. The desires of 50-75 million Americans provided an opening for any astute politician to provide real representation. The DC pols are not interested in supporting us - they’re too busy with their back room deals and looting the treasury. Finally, those mentioned in the article may soon become irrelevant. Trump may or may not be out of the picture but Trumpism lives on. People living in the DC bubble have no idea.
