Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said he witnessed the moment a police officer shot a woman inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and insisted the officer had no other choice.
A pro-Trump mob of rioters rammed their way into the Capitol Wednesday as Congress held a joint session to certify the election results, sending lawmakers into hiding.
Video shows a group attempting to force itself into the House chamber, where lawmakers were present. As protesters were breaking glass on the doors that kept them out to force their way through, a law enforcement officer fired a shot. One woman, Ashli Babbitt, was struck by a bullet and later died.
"When they broke the glass in the back, the [police] lieutenant that was there, him and I already had multiple conversations prior to this, and he didn't have a choice at that time," Mullin told ABC News' George Stephanapoulos on "Good Morning America" Thursday.
"The mob was going to come through the door, there was a lot of members and staff that were in danger at the time. And when he [drew] his weapon, that's a decision that's very hard for anyone to make, and, once you draw your weapon like that, you have to defend yourself with deadly force."
Mullin said police "showed a lot of restraint" and "did the best they could."

She had a flag neckerchief around her neck. They couldn’t even find the entry wound.
Sounds to me like he hasn't been kicked in the head enough. Somebody needs to finish the job.
Funny for a riot the only serious injury was a woman climbing through a broken window carrying an America flag..
Doesn’t sound lie any Riot I’ve seen before.. the woman who was shot was less than 10 feet from other LEOs who were interspersed with the crowd and had nothing violent I could see done or even threatened to be done to them.
LOL
I used to live and work in Mullin’s district, which is full of conservatives, and beyond them there are more than a few conspiracy theorists. I doubt he will be holding in town meetings in the near future.
Depends on where you are as to what the consequences would be, but this was not a home, it's a public building, and she was unarmed.
Which means the rules are even stricter. Even in Commiefornia I'm allowed to have a gun in my home. I am not allowed to bring a gun into a government building, as many of the rioters did prior to opening fire inside the building.
This is what a protest is -- left or right. All they accomplished was a delay. No one had illusions this transfer would be cancelled (outside of Q-nuts).
Judging by the rioters' attempt to seize and burn the Electoral ballots and the number of Freepers who were hoping it would overturn the election there may be more "Q-nuts" than you think.
This woman was a veteran who served her country and volunteered for four tours in a combat zone.
Doesn't make her final act any less illegal.
This is a very callous and hard way of looking at this.
I've been called worse things.
Conservatives have been a sleeping lion for a long time now. You can only poke the lion with a stick so many times before they wake up and lash out.
You have a very unfortunate view of what has happened.
I refuse to turn against my basic values supposedly in the name of saving them. That is all.
Besides, she wasn’t even trespassing. That’s the PEOPLE’s house.
Speak for yourself. I don’t think people should be killed unless they are actually attacking people or are seriously threatening to attack especially if they have a gun, knife, or bomb on their person. I don’t actually think most Freepers are so immoral they’d approve of murdering Antifa and BLM people (or anyone else) if they weren’t actually threatening anyone. Maybe a few, but all??? You must have a really crappy view of Freepers.

It’s not a clean kill
She had the right to vote in the kangaroo election.
I want his name... Surely we can figure this out. What is his name. He had no clue what he was doing, he fumbles with the weapon, lunges while firing, complete amateur shoot. What is his name....
Whose office is that he’s standing lying in wait instead of retreating.
Screw that thug, let’s name him. He’s a murderer.
But let Rep Hank Johnson have the last word: "A “Negro” would (should) be in the criminal justice system and fully prosecuted to deter future Republicans from committing he same crimes."
Were they likewise scared to death when Leftists invaded during the Kavenaugh hearings?
“interfering with the workings of a Constitutional Republic”
That’s a good joke, I have to remember that one. Constitutional republic in 2021! Ha!
That’s what the Speaker apparently said.
Your God will have the final judgement, not me........
BS. She was murdered/executed.
No case can be made for what happened. The woman was a 14 year vet of the Air Force. She hadn't even put a part of her body through the window when she was shot. With her military service, don't you think she would have backed out if she'd seen the men with drawn weapons? So if she couldn't see them, which I believe is the truth, then they weren't able to see if anyone was behind her either. A simple "Back off" would probably have sufficed. She doesn't appear to be the type who wanted to commit suicide by police officer. There is no proof she was even given a warning. One of them shot, not knowing where the bullet they fired would end up. Had it missed or passed through her, it would have ended up in someone else that was milling about in the hallway. There were several armed, helmeted police officers behind her. That moron inside the chamber, shooting willy-nilly through a window, could have shot and killed one of them. You're supposed to know where the bullet you are about to release is going to end up. The man who fired that shot never bothered to find out, and probably didn't even give a shit. Not to worry though, he will be protected, and his job saved, and he can go back to working for whatever big-wig Democrat he's been protecting.
He’s lying. The video shows no one in the hall behind the officer.
