Donald Trump's extraordinary crusade to overturn the presidential election will come to a head on Wednesday as Congress meets to certify Joe Biden's Electoral College victory at a joint session led by Vice President Mike Pence.
The typically routine proceeding will be anything but, as a group of 13 rogue Republican senators led by Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley plan to file objections when the alphabetical vote roll-call reaches the battleground state of Arizona.
The longshot effort is all but certain to fail, defeated by bipartisan majorities in Congress prepared to accept Biden's 306 to 232 electoral victory over Trump.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to make a last-ditch effort to dissuade members of his party from following through with their doomed plot when he delivers a speech early in the day.
Sources familiar with McConnell's plans told Axios his speech will center around his fear that the objections will tear his party apart by forcing Republicans to choose between upholding democracy and alienating a hugely influential GOP figure in Trump.
Meanwhile Trump has placed his hopes on Pence, furiously claiming that the vice president could single-handedly overturn the election results during Wednesday's proceedings - and denying a report that Pence had told him that wasn't possible.

Lynch Mitch.
True, everyone acts like “it all started with Obama”. Stupid.
What are they, 25 years old?
Pound Sand Mitch. Country before party, always.
I blame Hannity. He keeps saying the deep state is Obama holdovers.
mitch you talk like some rich guy who doesn’t need a check for $2000...
If no one stands up for this man, Trump, I for one am done.
No more voting. In fact, I might even drop off Free Republic also.
if he does anything other than strongly rally support to True the Vote and save PDJT’s huge election win,
McConnell will finally destroy the sicko GOP-e party.
one real, super-sized blessing from this atrocious DNC election Theft.
I will support and contribute to the new People’s Constitutional Liberties party (or whatever it may be called). Not one more penny and not one more day spent campaigning for the sick old backstabbing GOPe, here.
The Great Reset begins today, Mitch, and you and your party will soon be buried by the coming tsunami of destruction.
America was a good Republic while it lasted. It has been on life support for some time now and was recently placed in hospice. You provided the coup de grace. Now go retire and enjoy your fat pension and other Chinese perks.

I had the honor of speaking at @staceyabrams 2018 campaign kickoff.
A few minutes before this photo was taken, a big donor asked her how she was gonna win back Trump voters, and she said:
“I’m not gonna get Catholics to become Baptists. I’m gonna get Baptists to go to church.”

The Turtle is Soup.
I know it's difficult, and demoralizing, but I beg of you NOT TO DO THIS.
The Radical Left took over the Democratic Party in 1968 after the Chicago Riots. They took it over from the inside.
We need to do the same to the Republican party, taking it over from the inside. Believe it or not, we did may great strides in de-Swamping the Republican Party. It started with the Tea Party movement, and continued with the MAGA movement.
True, the job is far, far from over, but we need to play the long game here and continue to convert the Republican Party from the inside.
Just as Slick Willie overplayed his hand in 92 with the Assault Weapons Ban, and as a result we swept in a Republican House and Senate during the 94 midterms on the strength of Newt's Contract with America that lasted until Newt succumbed to the Swamp, and again when 0bama overplayed his hand by shoving 0Bamacare down our throats at 3 AM, and the next Midterms swept in a Republican House and took away the Dem's filibuster-proof Senate majority, Harris and her lapdog Creepy Joe will overplay their hand and the 2022 midterms may be a big turnaround for the Republicans again.
When that happens, we need to be ready with MAGA candidates and MAGA operatives within the Party.
LOL could be. But that’s all I hear almost anywhere. It’s always “what has been recent”.
Before Obama, it was “Bush is a RINO but Dems have BDS” (notice, that was before TDS - latter not used as much as BDS), and “Clinton is the cause of all problems”.
Very short-sighted.
Don’t be sorry, I was serious, your comment was a BoOM for me—it was truth,
I was just trying to say I’m in complete agreement.
Our battle cry must be:
“OFF THE ESTABLISHMENT! AMERICA FIRST!”
Your party just lost tens of millions of voters - not that actual voters mean that much in these days or computer controlled voting - but I don’t think you you are going to like the tens of millions of sworn enemies you’ve created out of former supporters.
Kill the Republican Party first. You have to start somewhere.
nikos needs your statement, too.
To these guys, I say, very unwise.
Look on the streets of WDC and see those brave Patriots....there’s your answer
Hey Mitch, GFY!
I trust nothing gets lost in the transaltion . . . But if so, Go **** Yourself
GFY, Mitch.
