I think you don’t understand what a doctorate means or why it is used or not used. People with doctorates use the title to communicate their level of formal training, not to deceive someone that they practice medicine. Doctorates in fields of specialized study existed long before medical societies decided to start their own doctorate programs. In some parts of the globe, medical doctorate programs don’t exist for surgeons even though their graduates have training equivalent to US medical school standards. You also have people in allied health such as psychologists, optometrists, dentists and chiropractors who have minimal to no medical training, but who have doctorates. In some fields, the highest level of training is the doctorate degree, but it is rarely used because other titles are used to reference to their doctorate training.
including a 57% fall in design and technology
Dr. Jill is married to Neil Kinnock, right?
Emeritus - when the tenure system is dominated, a professor who continued to be productive after getting tenure was deserving of recognition. This might have meant being a beloved teacher, being an active scholar, and/or service to the institution. Many professors who got tenure essentially retired in place.
I agree with this. I have a MA in English and have edited a few Ph.D. Ed.’s dissertations and they’re not more than a statistics or narrative driven thesis.
Ph.D = Piled higher and deeper.
I’m a hydro-tubing engineer.
At one time when I was younger, I was a fuel displacement mechanic.
I’ve heard the term ‘Book smart but street stupid...’
Thank you. Yes, medical doctor isn’t a research degree. You don’t write a dissertation. It’s a professional degree. Your education consists only in part of book-learning. In large part it consists of supervised practice. Through clinical practice, you are to develop professional judgment. In a management class, I lamented how few Americans work with their hands. One student took exception. He said he worked with his hands. He was a heart surgeon.

Having known several teachers, that is correct. So much of a teachers pay is computed based upon their continuing education.
I’m reminded of an article in WSJ several years ago that compared the requirements for a degree across all college majors and qualifications of the students. Journalism ranked second from the bottom just barely edging out education. IOW, those with an education degree had the lowest academic qualifications and took the courses that were the least challenging.
This kind of -doctor- is garbage anyway. Only an MD should be referred to as doctor IMHO.
Don't know if they still do it, but back in the day the higher qualified "Harley Street" physicians in England used the honorific Mister instead of Doctor. In Germany a physician cannot use the title Doctor unless he/she actually did finish a doctorate program (most do, of course).
Loved the quote: I can’t do it, there’s so much emptiness even I cannot grasp it,”
Back in the day, you had accomplish something never done before, something really unprecedented to get a Doctorate.
A quick read of her Doctoral Dissertation and I have to acknowledge that Dr Jill has not just met this high bar, she has exceeded it by a wide margin.
Have to say, I've never encountered anyone who has received a Doctorate for such a lame body of work.
What she has accomplished truly is unprecedented and does meet the standard of accomplishing something that nobody, to the best of my knowledge, has ever done before.

I remember that, too. The tests using math, arts, and sciences showed journalism and education degrees scored so low as to not even surpass a junior high school student.
Most professional doctorate degrees in the U are only Master’s degrees in the rest of the world. In fact, here in the US, a law degree was typically a Master’s until recent history. It was only in the early 1990’s that a JD became a requirement by State law.
From my experience it was obvious that EdD is simply a watered down program for school administrators and lacks any serious doctoral level scholarship and is not research based. That Ms Biden’s vapid “dissertation” filled with errors was accepted as doctoral level work and serious scholarship is a condemnation of the school that awarded it and the committee that approved it.
I’ve worked for a newspaper and I’ve worked for a university that specialized in Education degrees. In each of those fields, the students mostly avoid anything like a general education. No focus on history, literature, math, economics, politics, biology or anything else. The students graduate knowing almost nothing. But the Education majors know how to put together a “lesson plan” and the Journalism majors know who to type fast and meet deadlines.
And then they go out into the world to tell everybody else what they should think about the world.
