Dr. Phil McGraw has an MA in experimental psychology, a PhD in clinical psychology and a post-doc in forensic psychology.
Dr. Sebastian Gorka has a master's in international relations and diplomacy, and a PhD in political science.
Both of their academic programs were a great deal more demanding than an Ed.D.
Virtually all dissertations for Doctor of Education are.
It does? I completely missed that. Only knew it as a honorary title for longtime but retired profs.

Agree...but this article isn’t merely redundant. Among other things Kyle Smith mocks Jill Biden for, is that she teaches remedial students at a community college. That’s appallingly snobbish...bizarre, even.
Kyle Smith’s article is appalling, starting with its title. A curmudgeon needling Jill Biden over an old issue — should anyone who isn’t a medical doctor use “Dr” outside of work? — is not remotely like this vitriolic NR piece. Especially with the dumbed-down certification requirements typical of current Masters and Doctorate requirements in education. It USED to mean something. Now it just means they just kept taking a bunch of non-rigorous classes that no one fails, usually every summer.
Admission to pre-Med programs requires an SAT of at least 1400.
Average SAT score for education is 1000 (average).
Average isn’t bad. 1400 is borderline genius.
Bill Cosby has the same degree as Jill Biden, from an arguably better school.

I have looked at a number of Ed.D. abstracts in "Dissertation Abstracts." In most cases it appears that the degree-seeker concocts a dumb question, sends it out to 400 people, of which 100 reply, and then he or she solemnly analyzes the results.
There are exceptions. I know a retired professor of geology who has an Ed.D. who always struck me as very knowledgeable.
A lot of Ed.D.'s are earned by people who intend to be college administrators--people without a real academic field lording it over scholars who do have an academic discipline.
Cosby’s doctorate is from the University of Massachusetts. A long time ago I read an account by a professor of education at UMass who was on Cosby’s doctoral committee. Apparently he had only minimal contact with Cosby. Cosby’s thesis had to do with the “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids” cartoon.
Thomas Sowell has also cited studies that showed the “education” majors in college had the lowest SAT scores of any major. I remember a couple guys in the dorm, from my freshman year, who majored in education. They said that several of the ed classes that they took were a joke. Just learning how to do arts and crafts to display in a classroom.
