Walter E. Williams 1936-2020
townhall.com ^ | 12/2/2020 | Thomas Sowell

Walter Williams loved teaching. Unlike too many other teachers today, he made it a point never to impose his opinions on his students. Those who read his syndicated newspaper columns know that he expressed his opinions boldly and unequivocally there. But not in the classroom.

Walter once said he hoped that, on the day he died, he would have taught a class that day. And that is just the way it was, when he died on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.

He was my best friend for half a century. There was no one I trusted more or whose integrity I respected more. Since he was younger than me, I chose him to be my literary executor, to take control of my books after I was gone.

But his death is a reminder that no one really has anything to say about such things.

As an economist, Walter Williams never got the credit he deserved. His book "Race and Economics" is a must-read introduction to the subject. Amazon has it ranked 5th in sales among civil rights books, 9 years after it was published.

I know there have been several other pieces today about Mr. Williams but I hadn't seen this one from another brilliant thinker, Mr. Thomas Sowell, who considered Mr. Williams his best friend for 50 years.

He was a great substitute host for Rush - with a very good running joke series about Christmas gifts for Mrs. Williams. RIP, Walter E. Williams, deepest sympathy to his family.

Thomas Sowell is America’s Greatest Living Intellectual, but Dr. Williams was no slouch.

This is one of many tributes to him today and I figured if Mr. Sowell felt he should post it, it was worth sharing. Both great thinkers. I know certain other folks purported to be great thinkers that couldn’t hold a candle to either of these great men.

Man, we,re taking somebody blows these days. Sheila Robinson’s passing, Trump’s loss, now the death of one of our champions.

The Lord’s giving us a lot to bear.

May his soul rest in peace and may Perpetual Light shine upon him.

He was a good man.

The only exposure I ever had to him was when he filled in for Rush. He was excellent as a fill in...along with Steyn he was the best of the fill ins. I loved the way he,an economics professor, used to say “if I want to sell my kidney I should be able to do so”.

RIP, Mr Williams. It was a pleasure listening to you on the radio from time to time (mostly as guest host for Rush) over the past 30 years.

I am sure you have heard the words "Well done, good and faithful servant" by now.

We, on the other hand are poorer for your leaving.

I loved it when Williams would fill in for Rush and brag about conversations while working out in the gym, claiming the women asked him to take off his shirt. At 80 years old. LOL

But that's not his "Certificate of Amnesty and Pardon" to white peoples so we'd quit apologizing over and over for stuff done before we were born. LOL

I've been watching Sowell interviews on YouTube lately, but I'll catch up with Williams today.

Two great men whom I read since college days (80's-90's).

RIP Walter.

He was a great substitute host for Rush. . .

There are very few people whom I can endure listening to for a long period of time.
Walter William's was one of them.

RIP

Ever hear Sowell and Williams talk together?

Brilliant. I have economic degrees and was in heaven listening when Williams hosted for Rush and had Sowell on for an hour or two.
