What's China planning? Worrying satellite images expose huge military moves

CHINA is upping the stakes in the South China Sea region with the deployment of a massive amphibious assault vehicle capable of carrying almost 1,000 troops - with analysts suggesting it significantly enhanced Beijing's military power in the disputed waterway.

The South China Sea, which China claims sovereignty of 90 percent of, is regarded as a potential major flashpoint with the West, with Beijing having fortified numerous islands there. The report, published on the website of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, was written by Matthew Funaiole, a Senior Fellow with the think tank's China Power Project, and Joseph Bermudez Jr, Senior Fellow for Imagery Analysis.

The pictures show the Type 075 in the waters near Wuchuan on November 3 and moored at Yulin Naval Base on November 12.

Subsequent images date November 17 indicate it had been joined by a support group of at least five vessels.

[But anyway, I would not want to risk an all-out nuclear war for the sake of preserving _____. ]

This reasoning could apply to any country in the world, including the continental US. Ultimately, unless one party is certain that losing a conventional war means physical extermination, it will not initiate* a nuclear confrontation. And any conflict will be restricted to a strictly defined conflict zone, much like Korea, Vietnam and the Falklands. The outsized Chinese role in Korea and Vietnam meant that the best way to win those wars quickly was an all-out nuclear attack on China. Yet the US desisted from even bombing China.

* Leaving aside humanitarian considerations, from a cost-benefit standpoint, it makes sense to wipe out a nuclear-armed adversary with your arsenal if you are certain that no nuclear retaliation or retaliatory capability will be forthcoming. The problem is the US nuclear triad - especially the subs lurking in Westpac that can cremate the kin and friends of the Chinese leadership in less than an hour, along with hundreds of Chinese cities and hundreds of millions of Chinese. Frankly, any Chinese first strike against the US would likely result in the rest of the world, including Russia, joining in an all-out nuclear attack on China. Not because of any Russian affinity for the US, but because a China unconstrained by American power that has demonstrated a willingness to use nukes offensively is a mortal threat to not just Russia the sovereign state, but the Russian people.

Honestly, I think no matter who is in charge we do “little” to help.

What I don’t understand is WHY would China be so focused on getting rid of Taiwan? Who wants to manage 23 million pissed off Chinese who hate you?

I would think it would be easier to just “cut them off” and economically ruin them.

Taiwan is not Hong Kong....

The invasion will be China’s final move, not the first.
They will threaten and wait for the bribes to start pouring in .
So many other things they will demand first -
Trump tariffs lifted
Huweii unleashed
Clear field to exploit Africa
Rare Earth monopoly
End US alliances with Japan, South Korea
Free access to Venezuela’s oil
Access to US technology
They’ll get Biden to offer appeasement in all these areas, THEN invade

Nothing newsworthy here... The loss of Formosa is a given now that the American communists have seized control...

The Harris-Pelousy communist administration will probably offer logistic and reconnaissance support to the chicoms for the invasion...

[Unless China and Russia scheme together.]

No benefit for Russia, unless its long-term goal is to become a Chinese province. During WW2, a big reason for the Japanese not attacking* Russia and tying up Russian troops in the Far East, thereby preventing them from reinforcing shattered Russian forces in Europe, was likely because they anticipated that a Germany that had conquered Russia would turn its attention to Japanese territory. Historically, most alliances have been opportunistic, with alliance members gobbling each other up, given the chance.

* Khalkin Gol, a skirmish between Russia and Japan was technically a Russian victory. In reality, the Russians lost more men and equipment despite being more numerous and better-armed.

“Leaving the Biden administration fools with a good hot war is justice”

Biden would quickly apologize and nuke Tel Aviv to make his handlers happy.

Taiwan will fire its nuclear weapons on the mainland putting an abrupt end to the chicom threat and probably give J F’n Kerry something to do with climate change to save mankind. China must think some Chinese would not use nukes against their oppressive Brothers in Peking. They are wrong.
