Over the summer I had written about why Fox News was not in a good position as the television ecosystem shifted to streaming. (TL;DR: Fox is the only major cable or network news service not affiliated with a major Flix (multibillion dollar subscription streaming service), e.g., MSNBC has Peacock, CBS News has Paramount+, ABC News has Hulu. And so as cable audiences shrink, they do not seen to have a Plan B.)
But Fox News has another problem: a small right wing service called NewsMax that has done a much better job of distributing its TV programming online via the FASTsfree ad-supported streaming TV services.
As of this writing, NewsMax has a presence on Sling, Pluto, Xumo, Distro, Fubo, Roku, Chromecast, AppleTV and Amazon Fire TV (the latter four via its own free app.)
This is in addition to carriage arrangements with most all the major services, including DirecTV, Dish, Comcast, Charter, Cox, U-verse and Verizon FIOS.
Now granted NewsMaxs viewership is tiny compared to Foxs and its not exactly a start-upthe website was launched in 1998 and the TV service in 2014.
But as viewers shift to streaming and go looking for their fix of free right wing news, they may find it to be a compelling option.
The Concession Factor
The events of the coming week may well determine how successful NewsMax becomes. For while Fox News and the rest of the Murdoch empire has chosen to declare Joe Biden the winner of the presidential election and to cast doubts on President Trumps assertions that the elections were somehow fraudulent, NewsMax has gone in the other direction.
Their website carries a banner claiming that they are not yet calling the election, and their founder Chris Ruddy has been making the rounds of talk shows to explain ...

I frequented Newsmax a number of years ago (before I found FR), but it got a bit strident and click-bait-ey. I guess I’ll give it another try. We cut the cable 5 years ago so haven’t had FNC since then.
Unbelievable how quickly FOX went from being tops in cable news, to taking a plummet. Those Murdoch sons and their progressive wives sure have done a great job of killing the golden goose by pushing hard left.
Didn’t Newsmax go loony toons not to long ago?
Not that i am discouraging people from abandoning Fox “News”.
I prefer OAN. Both are fine. They need to beef up their programming — and they will. Newsmax just this week (I think) added a 7 a.m. morning show, “Wake Up America”.
“They need the big name celebrities.”
Like Juan Williams and Marie Harf?
Thank you!
OAN Live is available free until year end with the KlowdTV app.
That calculus may no longer be operative.
Fox News’ problem is 100% Fox News.
They changed their format. They went from a Center /right leaning middle to a carbon copy far left that lines up with all of the 3 letter news agencies.
They are now virtually indistinguishable from the rest.
And now that they are “one of them” the rest of the MSM will eat them up and get rid of them for their past behavior. It is too crowded a market.
I 100% expect they will be sold/ bought and merged with a CNN or an MSNBC.
“newzmax is pretty poor. OAN isnt bad.”
IMO, NewsMax needs to lose Sean Spicer and Mark Halperin and OAN needs to lose the hosts that seem like they’d be more at home on a collegiate channel.
I saw a post on twitter that made it through their censors that FNC ratings this Saturday evening came in third behind CNN and PMSNBC, that’s a pretty quick drop off.
I stopped watching the “news” part of Faux News years ago, back when that girl got kidnapped in Aruba, and that’s ALL they had on 24/7. Vapid, celebritard, National Enquirer, CRAP. The opinion folks like Tucker, Levin, et al are the only part of Faux “News” worth watching anyhow.
Add Maria Bartoroma
I noticed Pete Hegseth did not look too happy on Saturday morning. He’s very pro-Trump.
He and the others you mentioned would be an asset to NewsMax.
Newsmax is on 1115 on Comcast !!!!!
channel 1365 on Spectrum in Dayton OH
They MUST FIRE MARK HALPERIN!!!
Every FOX host has circled the wagon around their corrupt pro-Biden decision desk.
They have lost all cred, they look foolish, they’re selling out their viewers and we are discriminating and are leaving.
